Meningitis B (MenB) vaccination programme (Islay)

The following groups are eligible for the MenB programme this summer. This is a two dose schedule, with the second dose administered four weeks after the first.

School-age cohort: Young people born between 1 March 2008 and 28 February 2009, and others who were in S6 during the academic year 2025/26, regardless of future education plans, (including those who left school after fourth or fifth year).

University entrants: Any undergraduate under 25 years of age* starting university for the first time in academic year 2026/27.

College entrants: Anyone under 25 years of age* starting college for the first time in academic year 2026/27, while living away from home in shared student accommodation.

*Individuals who turn 25 years of age on, or before, 31/12/26 are eligible.

REMINDER - SURGERY CLOSURE - Monday 20 July

The surgeries will be closed for staff training for the afternoon from 12.30pm on Monday 20 July 2026. They will reopen as usual on Tuesday 21 July. Please make sure you collect any medication required prior to 12.30pm on Monday 20 July.

To access urgent medical care when the surgery is closed:

In a life-threatening medical emergency (e.g. chest pain, severe shortness of breath, a major accident or trauma, symptoms of a stroke) you should call 999.

If you have a non-life-threatening but urgent medical problem, you can access medical advice by visiting www.nhsinform.scot. If you feel you need to speak with or see a nurse or doctor regarding an urgent medical problem, you should call NHS24 on 111.

The Emergency Department is located within Islay Hospital in Bowmore. Whilst you are free to attend without first seeking advice, if you are able to access care by the routes above it will allow us to prioritise the use of limited space within the hospital building.

Unfortunately the IT fault has reoccurred this morning. You can still contact the practices for any urgent matters, but for non urgent matters please call this afternoon when we hope the fault will be fixed. NHS Highland IT department are aware of the fault and are working to resolve this issue.

A major technical fault is affecting access to all clinical, results & appointment systems. Patients are still able to contact the practice by telephone. However, we would ask patients not to contact the practice to book non-urgent appointments, or to ask for test results until access to the systems is restored. Repeat medication can continue to be ordered on the telephone system. Thank you.
