🚨 What is Benedict’s Law? 🚨

Benedict’s Law is new guidance being introduced to improve the safety of children with severe allergies in schools and educational settings.

Named after Benedict Blythe, the law has been developed following a campaign to raise awareness of anaphylaxis and ensure staff are better prepared to respond to life-threatening allergic reactions.

📚 What will it mean?
✅ Increased allergy awareness among school staff
✅ Better understanding of the signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis
✅ Training in the use of adrenaline auto-injectors (AAIs) such as EpiPens
✅ Stronger allergy management and emergency response procedures in schools

📅 When does it come into effect?
Benedict’s Law is expected to be introduced as part of updated statutory guidance for schools from September 2026.

Anaphylaxis can develop rapidly and become life-threatening within minutes. Ensuring that staff can recognise the signs early and act quickly could save a life.

🚨 Exciting News from JMS Training! 🚨

Today marks an important milestone for JMS as we begin our journey to become an accredited training provider with Anaphylaxis UK.

This accreditation will enable us to support schools, educational settings, and organisations in delivering high-quality allergy awareness and anaphylaxis training, helping them prepare for the new requirements under Benedict’s Law. 📚💙

Benedict’s Law was introduced following the tragic death of 5-year-old Benedict Blythe after a severe allergic reaction at school. The legislation aims to improve allergy safety in schools and create consistent, life-saving protections for children with allergies.

From September 2026, schools in England will be expected to:
✅ Have a published whole-school allergy policy
✅ Provide allergy awareness and emergency response training for all staff
✅ Keep spare adrenaline auto-injectors on site
✅ Maintain individual healthcare and allergy action plans for pupils with serious allergies

Through Anaphylaxis UK’s AllergyWise® programme, staff learn how to:
🔹 Recognise the signs and symptoms of allergic reactions and anaphylaxis
🔹 Respond quickly and effectively during an emergency
🔹 Administer adrenaline auto-injectors confidently
🔹 Create safer, more inclusive environments for children with allergies

At JMS, we’re proud to be taking this next step towards becoming an accredited provider, helping schools become compliant, confident, and prepared for the introduction of Benedict’s Law. Most importantly, we’re helping to create safer learning environments where every child can thrive.

Watch this space for updates as we complete our accreditation and begin delivering this vital training.

☀️ HOT WEATHER SAFETY ADVICE FROM JMS FIRST AID TRAINING ☀️

As temperatures continue to rise across the UK, it is important to take sensible precautions to protect yourself and your family from heat-related illness.

At JMS First Aid Training, we encourage everyone to stay safe during periods of hot weather by following these simple first aid and safety tips:

✔️ Drink plenty of water throughout the day
✔️ Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight between 11am and 3pm
✔️ Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and appropriate sun protection
✔️ Keep homes cool by closing curtains and windows during peak heat
✔️ Never leave children, vulnerable adults, or pets in parked vehicles
✔️ Check regularly on elderly relatives, neighbours, and those with medical conditions
✔️ Apply SPF 30+ sunscreen and reapply frequently

⚠️ Be aware of the signs of heat exhaustion:
• Headache
• Dizziness
• Excessive sweating
• Nausea
• Tiredness or weakness

If symptoms worsen, or a person becomes confused, unconscious, or stops sweating, seek emergency medical assistance immediately by calling 999.

A little preparation can make a big difference in keeping everyone safe during the warmer weather.

Stay safe and stay hydrated.

🚨 DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOUR NEAREST DEFIBRILLATOR IS? 🚨

Every minute without CPR and defibrillation reduces survival chances by up to 10%.

Yet in the UK, thousands of defibrillators go unused in emergencies simply because people don’t know where they are.

❤️ There are over 100,000 defibrillators registered across the UK on The Circuit, the national defibrillator network helping emergency services direct people to the nearest lifesaving device. (British Heart Foundation)

At JMS First Aid Training, we believe confidence and quick action save lives.

✅ Learn how to:
✔️ Recognise cardiac arrest
✔️ Perform CPR correctly
✔️ Use a defibrillator confidently
✔️ Stay calm in an emergency

⚡ Important fact:
You DO NOT need formal medical training to use a defibrillator. Modern AEDs give clear voice instructions and are designed for the public to use.

📍Take 2 minutes today:
• Find your nearest defibrillator
• Save the location in your phone
• Share it with your family and workplace

🔎 Find your nearest defibrillator here:

Or search directly using:

Because one day, that knowledge could save someone you love.

🚑 Paediatric First Aid Saves Lives 🚑

Would you know what to do if a baby stopped breathing, a child started choking, or a toddler suffered a serious burn?

Accidents involving children can happen in seconds at home, in nurseries, schools, sports clubs, or out and about. Having the confidence and knowledge to act quickly could make all the difference before emergency services arrive.

📊 In the UK:
• Around 750–800 children suffer an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest each year.
• Only 13.2% of children survive an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in England.
• 75% of hospital admissions for childhood burns involve children under 5 years old.

Our Paediatric First Aid courses at JMS First Aid Training give parents, carers, teachers, and childcare professionals the practical skills needed to respond confidently in an emergency.

✅ CPR for babies and children
✅ Choking treatment
✅ Burns and scalds
✅ Seizures, allergic reactions & more

Because knowing what to do in those first few minutes really can save a child’s life ❤️
