🚨 What is Benedict’s Law? 🚨
Benedict’s Law is new guidance being introduced to improve the safety of children with severe allergies in schools and educational settings.
Named after Benedict Blythe, the law has been developed following a campaign to raise awareness of anaphylaxis and ensure staff are better prepared to respond to life-threatening allergic reactions.
📚 What will it mean?
✅ Increased allergy awareness among school staff
✅ Better understanding of the signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis
✅ Training in the use of adrenaline auto-injectors (AAIs) such as EpiPens
✅ Stronger allergy management and emergency response procedures in schools
📅 When does it come into effect?
Benedict’s Law is expected to be introduced as part of updated statutory guidance for schools from September 2026.
Anaphylaxis can develop rapidly and become life-threatening within minutes. Ensuring that staff can recognise the signs early and act quickly could save a life.
