Another successful Carer Appreciation Afternoon for the team at Silver Assist Homecare! 🚤☀️

This time we took to the canal on two boats, kindly courtesy of Dragonfly Cruises, and what an afternoon it was! Lots of laughter, plenty of sausage rolls, questionable steering skills… and we only crashed a handful of times, which we’re definitely counting as a success. 😅

Days like this are such a small way of saying thank you to our incredible carers for the hard work, compassion, and dedication they show every single day to the people we support. We genuinely couldn’t ask for a better team. 💙

A huge thank you to everyone who came along and made it such a lovely afternoon — and to Dragonfly Cruises for having us!

Today marks World Autism Awareness Day — a chance to raise awareness, promote understanding, and celebrate neurodiversity 💙

Autism is a lifelong neurodevelopmental difference that affects how people experience the world, communicate, and interact with others. It’s important to remember that autism looks different for everyone — no two people are the same.

Here are a few important facts:
• Around 1 in 100 people in the UK are autistic
• Autism is not an illness — it’s a difference, not something to “fix”
• Many autistic people have incredible strengths such as attention to detail, honesty, creativity, and deep focus

At Silver Assist Homecare, we believe in supporting people as individuals — understanding what matters to them, adapting our approach, and creating environments where people feel safe, respected, and valued.

A few simple ways we can all be more supportive:
• Be patient and give people time to process information
• Use clear and direct communication
• Be mindful of sensory sensitivities (noise, light, busy environments)
• Avoid making assumptions — everyone’s experience is different

We’d also like to give a special shout out to Greg, our Neurodiversity Champion 💙
It takes real courage to share your experiences and be your authentic self, and by doing so, you’re helping to create a more understanding and inclusive world for everyone.

Let’s continue to learn, listen, and support one another — not just today, but every day.
