The long, dry spell might be lovely for barbecues and evenings in the garden, but it’s much tougher for our local wildlife.
When the ground becomes hard and dry, it can be difficult for hedgehogs, birds and other garden visitors to find the water and food they need. A few simple acts of kindness can make a real difference:
• Leave out a shallow dish or container of fresh water, topping it up daily.
• If you have hedgehogs visiting, you can leave out a little meat-based wet cat or dog food in the evening, along with fresh water. Please don’t leave out milk or bread, as these can make hedgehogs unwell.
• Leave a few areas of your garden a little wild to provide shade, shelter and somewhere for insects to thrive.
Here at Silver Assist Homecare, some of our wonderful clients love caring for the wildlife that visits their gardens. As part of our visits, we’re supporting them to refill water dishes, put out a little food for their prickly visitors, and continue enjoying the birds, hedgehogs and other wildlife that bring so much joy.
Sometimes the smallest acts of kindness have the biggest impact – for both people and nature. 🦔💚
