From today, NHS England is rolling out HPV self-testing kits for women who have fallen behind on their cervical screening.

Cervical screening is one of the best ways to protect yourself from cervical cancer, so it’s important to take up your invitation when it arrives.

If you’ve missed your cervical screening, the NHS may invite you to take an HPV self-test instead. If invited, you can order a kit, take your sample at home or somewhere private, and return it free by post.

You can’t opt in to HPV self-testing – if you’re eligible, the NHS will contact you.

👻 Have you heard of a "Ghost Patient"?

NHS England and Primary Care Support England (PCSE) are carrying out a national exercise to help ensure GP practice lists are accurate and up to date.

If you haven't had any contact with your GP practice in the last 3 years, you may receive a letter, text message or email from NHS England or PCSE asking you to confirm your details. Your GP practice may also contact you as part of this process.

If you receive one of these messages, please don't ignore it. You will be unregistered if you do not confirm your details.

By responding, you'll help:
✅ Keep your GP registration active
✅ Confirm your current address and contact details
✅ Ensure you continue to receive important information about your healthcare

It only takes a few moments to respond, but it helps us keep our patient records accurate and makes sure we're able to contact you when needed.

Thank you for helping us keep your records up to date.

*** RED HEAT ALERT EXTENDED ***

The red heat-health alert is in place for the South West has been extended to 11pm on Friday 26th June.

The surgery does not have air-conditioning and is extremely warm. If you do have an appointment, please bring a bottle of water or drink with you for travelling to and from the surgery in this extreme weather.

Our team has been working incredibly hard in very difficult conditions to support all patients and provide care as safely and efficiently as possible. Please be kind, we ask for your patience and understanding during this time.

Thank you for your support.

Looking after yourself and others during extreme heat

The current high temperatures can be dangerous, particularly for older people, young children, pregnant women and those with long-term health conditions.

Please remember to:

Drink plenty of fluids and avoid becoming dehydrated

Stay in the shade or indoors during the hottest part of the day (11am–3pm)

Wear loose-fitting clothing, a hat and sunscreen if outdoors

Keep your home cool by closing curtains and blinds in sunny rooms

Avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day

Check on elderly relatives, neighbours and vulnerable friends

Never leave children, vulnerable adults or pets in a parked vehicle
