📰 NEWS: A new drug that extends survival for women with hard-to-treat ovarian cancer is now available on the NHS.

The treatment was tested at St Bartholomew’s Hospital as part of a major global clinical trial including eight NHS hospitals in England.

📰 NEWS: An experimental antibody treatment that binds to a protein known as PCDH7 shrank tumours in preclinical models of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), even those resistant to a targeted therapy, a study led by UT Southwestern Medical Center researchers in the US showed.

The findings, published in Science Advances, could eventually lead to a new class of drugs to treat NSCLC and potentially other cancers.

📰 NEWS: Cancer Research UK has announced it is making hundreds of specialised blood tests available to people affected by cancer across the UK.

As a co-funder of the Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre (ECMC) network, the charity has issued a grant to The Royal Marsden NHS which is partnering with Guardant Health to provide circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA) molecular profiling, using the Guardant360 Liquid assay powered by Infinity. These tests are intended for patients with advanced solid cancers across the ECMC network.

CtDNA blood tests play a key role in precision clinical trials designed to include patients with specific genotypes of tumours. Molecular profiling data and analysis help guide clinical teams when identifying suitable patients to enrol onto specific trials, inform treatment decisions and support the monitoring of how cancer behaves over time and responds to treatment.

📰 NEWS: A team from The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre have developed a new dose monitoring system for the UK’s national eye proton therapy service, with funding from NHS England.

The new system is highly optimised for use in low-energy proton therapy and paves the way for other countries to follow suit.

Eye proton therapy is so highly-specialist that there are just a handful of services worldwide and there are no commercial manufacturers for low-energy proton machines. Any new kit or replacement parts have to be designed and developed in-house by the expert engineers and clinical scientists at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre.

The treatment uses low-energy proton beams to very precisely target cancers of the eye such as uveal melanomas, helping patients avoid surgery to remove their eye.

📰 NEWS: A new, targeted cancer therapy for advanced gastrointestinal stromal tumours has shown promising early results, with 65% of patients who received velzatinib as first-line treatment experiencing tumour shrinkage of 30% or over.

The results could pave the way for a larger trial to evaluate this therapy as a first-line alternative to imatinib, which has been the standard treatment for more than two decades.

Initial results from the ongoing StrateGIST 1 clinical trial, an international, multi-centre Phase 1/1b trial with contributions from The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust and The Institute of Cancer Research, London, were presented at the 2026 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting.

Two new animated patient information videos designed to help and support UK patients undergoing CAR T-cell therapy have been launched by Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The short easy-to-follow videos provide a step-by-step guide to how the treatment works and common side effects.

The videos use animation and simple imagery to present a complex scientific treatment and medical journey into digestible, easy-to-understand information. They have been translated into 19 languages.

📰 NEWS: A new Radiopharmacy Suite has opened at Castle Hill Hospital to help patients undergoing tests for serious conditions including cancer.

The new suite will support patients from all over Hull, the East Riding and Northern Lincolnshire who need Nuclear Medicine scans to confirm diagnosis, meaning they can begin their treatment far sooner.

The Pharmacy team has worked with the Physics and Imaging departments in the Nuclear Medicine Service and staff from the Molecular Imaging Research Centre to produce radiolabelled diagnostic tracers – made from pharmaceutical products containing a radioactive substance at Castle Hill instead of having them delivered from another part of Yorkshire.

A team at the University of Oxford has received support from the Medical Research Council (MRC) to develop and manufacture a new generation of personalised cancer vaccines using artificial intelligence and UK sovereign AI systems.

The programme, called the UK Cancer Vaccine AI & Supercomputing Project, brings together doctors, cancer scientists, AI experts, robotics engineers and manufacturing specialists to build AI-designed personalised cancer vaccines.

The team has been developing biological AI models using the UK’s sovereign AI systems, including the DAWN and ISAMBARD-AI supercomputers. These systems allow researchers to analyse vast amounts of and immune data at a scale previously impossible within conventional university computing environments.

The MRC support will fund the next phase of the programme, including equipment needed to manufacture experimental mRNA cancer vaccines and test whether the AI’s predictions work in patient samples.

The aim is to determine whether vaccine targets selected by AI can generate strong anti-cancer immune responses.
