A reminder that the practice is closed tomorrow, Monday 31 August, for the August Bank Holiday.

For urgent medical advice, call 111 or visit 111.nhs.uk. Available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

As we head into autumn, two things are worth getting ahead of.

Vitamin D. From October, most people in the UK do not get enough vitamin D from sunlight. The NHS recommends a daily supplement of 10 micrograms through the autumn and winter months. This applies to most adults, including those who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Flu vaccine. If you are eligible, the flu vaccine will be available later in the autumn. We will share more details when booking opens. If your contact details have changed, make sure we have your current number or email so we can reach you.

August is nearly done.

If you have been putting off a health concern over the summer, now is a good time to get it looked at before September arrives and the practice gets busier.

A few things worth thinking about:

Annual reviews for long-term conditions including diabetes, asthma, and blood pressure are best kept up to date. If yours is overdue, contact us.

Blood test results. If you had a test recently and have not followed up on the results, check via the NHS App or call us.

Anything else that has been on your mind. You do not need a serious reason to speak to us.

School starts again in a couple of weeks. A few things worth sorting before September.

Vaccinations. Is your child's record up to date? If you are not sure, check via the NHS App or contact us. Catch-up appointments can be arranged.

Medications in school. If your child needs medication during school hours, make sure the prescription and any school paperwork are in place before term begins.

Annual reviews. If you or a family member has a long-term condition and an annual review is due, now is a good time to book before the practice gets busier in September.

More than 1 in 3 adults in England are not meeting the recommended 150 minutes of moderate activity a week.

Regular movement does more than manage weight. It reduces the risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and depression. It supports sleep, energy, and mental health.

It does not have to mean the gym. A 30-minute walk, five days a week, meets the guidelines.

If you are managing a long-term condition that makes activity difficult, speak to us. We can connect you with the right support, including our physiotherapy team or a referral through social prescribing.

A quick, painless photo of the back of your eye can reveal early signs of heart and circulatory disease before symptoms appear.

The Better Health Bus is bringing a free cardiovascular eye scan to Borehamwood Retail Park this Thursday.

Thursday 20 August, 10:30am to 2:30pm. Free. Drop in. No appointment needed.

The scan is provided in partnership with Heart Eye. Afterwards, you receive a personalised report on your heart and circulatory health.

Also on board: blood pressure check, wellbeing conversation, and social prescribing support.

If you are registered with Manor View, additional services are available on the day, including medication reviews, vaccinations, blood tests, carers health checks, and advice about medical queries. Eligibility applies.
