The first day back at school can be so exciting for some children. 🥹

New clothes, shiny new shoes, a new school bag… and, my personal favourite, all the new stationery! 😂✏️📚

But for some children — and their parents — the first day back is filled with anxiety, dread and a whole lot of emotion.

Today I made a decision.

Things were going to happen on our terms.

I’m incredibly lucky that Ruby’s school have been so supportive and understanding, but I knew today was going to be difficult after being off for 7 weeks.

In the week leading up to today, I kept hearing:

“I don’t want to go back to school.”

The anxiety had already started.

So as 9am got closer and the tears and refusal began, I thought:

I’m not starting this school year with my child being dragged away from me. I’m not doing it.

I also knew the school would be incredibly busy with all the new P1s and their families. I didn’t want Ruby to feel embarrassed or overwhelmed, and I certainly didn’t want her distress or upset any of the little ones starting their very first day of school.

So I called the school.

I explained how she was feeling and asked if I could bring her in later.

And they said yes. ❤️

Those couple of extra hours gave us breathing space.

We got calm.
We got ready without the battles.
We did her hair.
We had time to regulate.

And when it was time to go, Ruby walked into school without tears.

I could see how anxious she still was — the colour literally drains from her face when her anxiety is high — but with the right support, she got through the door.

Tomorrow might be exactly the same.

And you know what?

That’s okay.

Because I would much rather take a little extra time and meet her where she is than start every morning with a completely dysregulated child, which then leaves both of us stressed, upset and exhausted.

Last year was one of the hardest years I’ve ever experienced trying to get Ruby into school, and I know how much it took out of me too.

So if you’re a parent whose child struggles with school…

Please know you are not alone.

Sometimes it can feel like one of the loneliest things in the world when everyone else seems to be walking through the school gates happily while you’re fighting tears, anxiety, refusal and overwhelm.

I see you.
I hear you.
And I get it. ❤️

There is no one-size-fits-all way to get a child into school.

Sometimes we have to slow down, change the plan and meet them where they are.

And that isn’t giving in.

It’s supporting them. 🤍

This week I’ve taken some time away from the shop… and it’s been exactly what I needed. 💖

I’ve slowed down, given myself space to breathe, planned for the months ahead, organised things that have been waiting, and spent time writing the guided meditation for Tuesday evening’s class.

And… it’s full. 🥹✨

I honestly can’t tell you how grateful I am. Thank you to every single person who has booked a place and continues to support The Caring Place. It truly means the world.

Taking July’s classes off gave me the space I didn’t realise I needed. Instead of constantly doing, I’ve been able to simply be… and in that space, my creativity has started flowing again.

I’m feeling refreshed, inspired and so excited to welcome everyone back on Tuesday. 💚

If you were hoping to join us this Tuesday, please don’t worry, our next Guided Meditation class is Tuesday 26th August at 7pm, and there are still a few spaces available. I’d absolutely love to welcome you there. ✨

Sometimes the most powerful form of self-care is simply listening to what your soul needs. 💚🌊

Last week, during my own self-care journey, I wrote in my journal that what truly helps me breathe again is walking beside the sea, listening to the waves, standing amongst the trees, and slowing down.

Last night, I did exactly that.

I wandered along the beach, stood quietly and simply listened. No rushing. No expectations. Just the sound of the water, the fresh air and a few peaceful moments to reconnect with myself.

When I got home, I had one of the best night’s sleep I’ve had in a long time.

It reminded me that healing doesn’t always come from doing more. Sometimes it comes from doing less… from creating space to simply be.

We spend so much of our lives looking after everyone else, ticking off to-do lists and pushing through exhaustion that we forget to ask ourselves one very important question…

What does my soul need today?

Maybe for you it’s the sea.
Maybe it’s a walk through the woods.
Maybe it’s sitting in the garden with a cup of tea.
Maybe it’s ten minutes of quiet meditation.

Whatever it is, don’t dismiss it because it seems too simple.

Sometimes the simplest moments are the ones that heal us the most. 🤍

I’d love to know…
Where do you go when you need to reconnect with yourself?

✨ Happy 1st of the Month ✨

Hello, Chapter 8. 💛

A new month always feels like a gentle invitation to pause, reset and begin again.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been reminded of something so important… you can’t pour from an empty cup.

Life gets busy. We spend so much of our time looking after everyone else, juggling responsibilities, saying “yes” when we’re already exhausted, and pushing through when what we really need is to stop and breathe.

Taking time for yourself isn’t selfish – it’s essential.

When we give ourselves permission to rest, reflect and reconnect with ourselves, we become more present, more patient and more able to show up for the people we love.

If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, emotionally drained or simply in need of a little time just for you, I’d love to welcome you back to my guided meditation evenings this month.

🌿 Ground Yourself 🌿

Have you ever noticed how much calmer you feel after spending time outdoors?

Grounding is the simple practice of connecting with the Earth by standing or walking barefoot on natural surfaces like grass, sand, or soil. It encourages you to slow down, become more aware of the present moment, and take a break from the constant busyness of everyday life.

The Earth is often described as nature’s charger. The surface of the Earth carries a natural electrical charge, and when we make direct contact with it, there can be a small exchange of electrons between our bodies and the ground.

Take a few moments today to step outside, feel the grass beneath your feet, and take a few slow, deep breaths. It doesn’t have to be for long—even a few mindful minutes can be a gentle reminder to slow down and reconnect with the present moment.

Sometimes, the simplest acts of self-care are the ones we need most. 💚

✨ Nobody is you… and that’s your superpower. ✨

I first heard this saying at the beginning of my own healing journey.

At the time, I don’t think I gave it much thought. It was just another quote.

But as time went on, I realised just how powerful those few words really are. They’ve stayed with me through some of my hardest moments and have become something I come back to whenever self-doubt creeps in.

Take a moment to really think about it…

There is no other you. 🤯

In a world with billions of people, there has never been, and never will be, another person exactly like you.

Your experiences, your heart, your kindness, your strengths, your struggles, your laugh, your dreams… they all make you uniquely you.

So the next time you’re questioning your worth, comparing yourself to someone else, or feeling like you’re not enough, remember this:

✨ You are a unique piece of the world’s puzzle.
✨ You have something to offer that nobody else can.
✨ Nobody is you… and that is your superpower. 💛

The world doesn’t need another version of someone else.

It needs you.

So be kind to yourself today. Celebrate your uniqueness, embrace your imperfections, and never underestimate the light you bring simply by being who you are. 🌿💚

Is this how you’re feeling? 😵‍💫➡️😌

If you’re a parent… chances are you’re somewhere between surviving on coffee ☕, repeating yourself 100 times a day 🤪, and wondering how we’re only just over a week into the summer holidays… with another 6 to go! 😂

Life has a funny way of piling everything on at once. Work, children, housework, appointments, caring for everyone else… and before you know it, you’ve completely forgotten about yourself.

But here’s the thing…

✨ You don’t need an entire day to reset.

Sometimes all it takes is 10 minutes.

10 minutes to put your phone down.
10 minutes to close your eyes.
10 minutes to breathe deeply.
10 minutes to sit in the garden with a cuppa.
10 minutes listening to calming music.
10 minutes of meditation.

Those small moments really do make a difference. They help calm your nervous system, slow your racing mind and remind you that you matter too. 💛

And if you can spare a little longer, why not join me for my next Guided Meditation class? Give yourself a whole hour to switch off from the outside world, reconnect with yourself and leave feeling lighter, calmer and refreshed.
