Just because someone has a learning disability it doesn’t mean they don’t like to do the same sorts of things as everyone else. However, in order to do so, to have the same range of opportunities as anyone else, to carry out ordinary activities in their own home, to fully access their community or to build friendships and relationships many need additional support. This is where our excellent staff team come into play, and as we come to the end of Learning Disability week we would like to say a huge thank you to each and every one of them.

As we approach the end of Learning Disability week what better time to celebrate some of the fantastic achievements of the people we support.

At Gofal Cymru care we always focus on what people re able to do rather than what they cannot, we support them to take part in educational, social and leisure activities that match their interests and ability.

We give them as much choice as possible in everything they do and everything that affects them. We encourage development of life skills - they are encouraged to help with chores around the house, including cleaning, laundry, cooking and gardening if they are able.

As far as possible we do things WITH the individual and not for, and always with their best interests and well being in mind.

COME WORK FOR US.
At Gofal Cymru Care we support some absolutely fabulous individuals ranging in age from teenagers to over 60s in a number of small residential homes (none bigger than 6 bedrooms) across Cardiff and Barry. Our staff do a great job in helping them develop, achieve personal goals and live their best lives.

At Gofal we embrace all cultures and are proud of our staff and the variety of nationalities represented. And of course we love any excuse for a party. Today we held a slightly belated Africa Day celebration, embracing the culture of various countries, with some authentic African food, lots of music and fun.

Of course it is much nicer to be outside in the sunshine, but what were coats invented for if not to be able to get some fresh air and have some outdoor fun even if the sun doesn't want to come out to play.

The weather has been so changeable in recent weeks, but there is always somewhere to visit - the National Museum for instance, full of wonders.
