The lovely thing about how far hearing aids have come is that a proper Welsh autumn doesn't scare them anymore.

The premium aids we fit are rated IP68, which means they handle rain, sweat, drizzle and everyday knocks without missing a beat. You can go out for the walk, do the gardening in a shower, and not worry. And when you get home, you just pop them in the drying pot overnight to keep them at their best.

A hearing test is a lot less "medical" than most people expect.

You come in. We sit down together for a proper chat about what you've been noticing, when it's better and when it's worse, what your family thinks, what you'd like to be able to do more easily. We look in your ears with an otoscope. We then put you in a booth with a set of headphones and play a series of tones and words at different volumes.

Then we look at the results on a graph called an audiogram, together, and talk through what it means and what your options are (if any).

An hour, start to finish. £35, refunded if you decide on hearing aids. Four clinics.

There's always one thing that gets pushed back all summer. Yours might be the fence repair, the holiday photo albums, that phone call to the accountant, or a bit of self-care like getting your ears sorted.

Ear wax builds up quietly. It muffles hearing, causes discomfort, and eventually gets to the point where it needs professional removal because nothing at home will shift it.

If you sleep next to a snorer, or you live near a road, or you're just a light sleeper, foam plugs are only really a short-term fix. They shift as you move in the night, they irritate the ear canal, and half the time you wake up before they've done their job.
