🐥 We are enjoying every moment together here at The Duckling Den and can't quite believe how quickly this year has flown by! It has been wonderful watching the children grow in confidence, develop new skills, and create so many happy memories along the way.

🗓️ Over the next few weeks, we will continue making the most of our time together through play-based learning, following the children's interests and ideas. The children have already chosen some exciting mini-topics for us to explore, including:

🦁 Wild Jungle Adventures
🐷 Peppa Pig – rain and muddy puddles
🧸 Terrific Teddy Picnic

👦👧 Of course, our much-loved resources will be enjoyed once again, and the children will have plenty of opportunities to develop their communication, creativity, problem-solving skills, and imagination. They'll also continue building their early numeracy and literacy skills while having lots of fun with their friends.

We look forward to sharing our adventures with you over the coming weeks. Here's to making every moment count and creating even more wonderful memories together at The Duckling Den! 💛🐥

🌊🐟 Our Waves & Wonders topic made its final splash at The Duckling Den last week! 🐟🌊

The little ones had a wonderful time exploring the much-loved story of The Rainbow Fish, a beautiful tale that helps young children understand the importance of kindness, friendship, and sharing. Through the story, the children learned that sharing what we have with others can help everyone feel happy, included, and valued. It also encouraged conversations about being a good friend and how small acts of kindness can make a big difference.

To bring the story to life, the children enjoyed a range of exciting activities throughout the week. A particular highlight was creating their own sparkling fish masterpieces in our craft area, using a variety of materials to decorate colourful fish with shimmering scales. They worked together as a team to add scales to our playdough Rainbow Fish, encouraging cooperation, communication, and turn-taking skills.

Our cotton bud Rainbow Fish play tray was another favourite, where the children used dropper tools to explore colour mixing, strengthening their fine motor skills while discovering how different colours combine to create new ones. There were lots of moments of curiosity, concentration, and excitement as the colours blended together!

Of course, we also enjoyed retelling the story together, discussing the characters and their feelings, and learning a fun new song all about The Rainbow Fish.

What a fantastic way to end our Waves & Wonders adventure—filled with creativity, friendship, teamwork, and plenty of sparkling memories! 🌈✨🐠💙

🦋 This week at The Duckling Den, our 3-year-olds created some beautiful symmetrical butterflies! Using paint, colour, and a little creativity, the children explored how one side of a butterfly can mirror the other, introducing them to the early mathematical concept of symmetry in a fun and hands-on way.

🎨🖌️ Craft activities like this offer so much more than a lovely piece of artwork to take home. They help develop fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, concentration, and creativity. Exploring symmetry in a playful way also encourages children to observe patterns, make predictions, and build early problem-solving skills.

👦👧 Most importantly, the children were proud of their creations and enjoyed the excitement of revealing their colourful butterfly designs. Learning through play and creativity is a wonderful way to build confidence and curiosity about the world around them. 🌎

Thank you again for sending your child to our Brain Boosting Literacy Classes — we can’t believe it’s June already!

The boys and girls are a joy to have, and we really enjoy planning practical, play-based learning activities for them each week. Supporting every child and watching their literacy skills grow and develop is wonderful to see! 🌟

June Literacy Club Theme: Literacy Detectives 🕵️‍♀️

Children will solve clues, crack codes, and work together to consolidate their literacy skills. With games, movement, teamwork, and plenty of detective challenges — including our Literacy Olympics Obstacle Course — June is set to be a fun-filled programme where literacy learning comes to life through play!

✨ A Huge Thank You! ✨
We'd like to say a big thank you to the wonderful local cheerleading group who recently visited Mini Ville for a team bonding experience! 💖

👧 The girls had an amazing time enjoying one of our popular Pamper & Play Parties, filled with fun, friendship, and plenty of sparkle! ✨ From mini manicures that had everyone shining throughout the celebration, to sparkling glitter tattoos, gentle face cleansing, moisturising, and beautiful face gems, the girls loved exploring all of our mini pamper stations. 🎀🧴💅

⛺️ There was also plenty of time to relax and chat in our cosy teepee corner before heading off to enjoy lots of imaginative play around our play town, creating memories together and strengthening friendships along the way. 🌸

🥰 It was a pleasure to host such a fantastic group, and we loved seeing everyone having so much fun, laughing, and making the most of their special bonding experience.

🌟 Brain Boosting Literacy Fun for Primary 1 & Primary 2! 🌟

🧠 Our Brain Boosting Literacy classes are packed with exciting, play-based learning activities that keep our boys and girls engaged from start to finish!
👀 Take a little look at some of the learning tasks the children enjoyed at a recent class…

🐠 Under the Sea Digraph Adventure 🐠
Children explored an underwater-themed digraph sorting activity where they sounded out a variety of words and matched each word card to the correct digraph sound hidden within it. Sound buttons helped the children identify the digraphs more confidently and develop their phonics skills in a fun, visual way. There were lots of fantastic discussions as everyone worked together to crack the words!

🔤 Magnetic Letter Word Building 🔤
Our young learners also enjoyed using magnetic letters to build lots of CVCC words. As they constructed each word, they were challenged to identify the vowel letter too. This hands-on activity provided a wonderful opportunity to strengthen spelling, blending and word recognition skills while having fun.

🕵️‍♀️ Tricky Word Agents on a Mission! 🕵️‍♂️
The highlight of the class was undoubtedly our Tricky Word Agent challenge! The children transformed into detectives and used magic torch pens to uncover hidden tricky words. Once they discovered each word, they took on the extra challenge of recording it and spelling it aloud. To finish the task, everyone participated in peer assessment, carefully analysing each other's tricky word reports and celebrating their successes. What fantastic teamwork and communication skills!

🎉 Learning Through Movement and Play 🎉
We always love ending our sessions with a competitive game! The children had great fun playing Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes while identifying and reading high-frequency words. There was plenty of laughter, enthusiasm and learning all rolled into one energetic activity.

Well done to all of our amazing learners for their hard work, enthusiasm and positive attitudes throughout the session. It is wonderful to see confidence and literacy skills growing through engaging, play-based experiences every week! ⭐📚✨

What a wonderful time we had yesterday at The Duckling Den, in Mini Ville Play! We had an amazing time celebrating our love of nursery rhymes and action songs! 🎶✨

Throughout this year, the children have been enjoying learning rhymes, songs and actions together, and this week we’ve had so much fun showing off everything we’ve learned!

On Tuesday, we welcomed a very special visitor — Pirate Stan! 🏴‍☠️🎸 He joined us for rhyme time and brought along his guitar as we sang, danced and proudly taught him all the words and actions we have been practising this year. There were so many joyful music and movement moments shared together, and Pirate Stan was very impressed with our amazing singing, listening, coordination and performances!

Nursery rhymes and songs play such an important role in children’s early development. They help to build language skills, listening and memory, support communication and confidence, encourage movement and coordination, and create special opportunities for social interaction and fun together. Most importantly, they bring so much joy and laughter to learning! 💛

Pirate Stan is now sailing off to teach his pirate friends all the fantastic songs he learned from us and to play new tunes for them at sea! 🌊⚓
