Looking for somewhere in Carrickfergus where little ones can play, learn and let their imaginations run wild?

HomesNI met Catherine Garrett from Mini Ville Play in Carrickfergus, who are currently celebrating their 3rd birthday.

Catherine tells us how her husband Lee designed and built the wonderful play areas himself, from Mini Ville Primary School to, fittingly for Carrickfergus, their very own castle, where children can dress up, role-play and make believe.

With more than 13 years’ experience as a primary school teacher, Catherine has used her skills and passion for early learning to create a space that is not only fun, but also encourages children to learn, explore and develop through play.

She has also gone on to establish her own nursery, The Duckling Den.

Situated on Marshallstown Road, in the same space as Season Coffee Shop and Nook Living, Mini Ville is a brilliant place to bring your little ones for some fun, imagination and learning.

🏰🐥 Our Brain Boosting Literacy, small group class was filled with a variety of practical activities on Tuesday…

🧠 We welcomed girls and boys aged 4 to 7 and they all enjoyed independent & small group tasks to help recap and reinforce key literacy learning!

🗓️This class continues every Tuesday afternoon and we are really enjoying supporting children on their literacy learning journey 🫶

🧒👦 Our practical activities included…

🧠 Tricky words on skittles - an active, movement game to consolidate tricky words beginning with letter ‘w’.
🧠 A ‘Back to School’ list - children were encouraged to brainstorm items needed for returning to school. We used our ‘catch the word’ strategy to help us and we stretched out the sounds in each word, recording them on our whiteboards and added sound buttons at the end to highlight the digraph sounds!
🧠 The highlight this week was a task that focused on real and nonsense words! We welcomed Bob and Obb, two little word monsters - Bob liked to gobble real words and Obb enjoyed munching on nonsense words! The children worked in teams to decode a range of words and then took turns to feed the monsters!
🧠 As always we loved our storytelling session too and having a brain break snack!
