Healing From the Inside Out: A Holistic Approach to Alopecia & Autoimmune Wellbeing
Over the past 25 years, I have sat with hundreds of people from young children to those in later life who came to me exhausted, frustrated, and longing for answers. Many were living with alopecia, eczema, fatigue, joint pain, or other long-term inflammatory conditions. And so many of them simply felt unheard.
As a naturopath and iridologist, my work begins with one simple belief: the body is connected. Hair, skin, gut, mind none of it works in isolation. When one part is struggling, the others often are too.
The gut wellbeing connection
One of the most fascinating areas in modern health is the link between the gut and the immune system. Emerging research continues to explore how the balance within our gut can influence inflammation, energy, mood, skin, and even the health of our hair.
In my own clinical experience, when we gently support gut health, nutrition, and stress levels together, many clients tell me they slowly begin to feel like themselves again.
I take a particular interest in gut imbalances including organisms such as Blastocystis and Dientamoeba, which are increasingly talked about in the world of gut health. When the gut is out of balance, it can contribute to bloating, histamine sensitivity, poor nutrient absorption, and low energy all of which can quietly affect how we look and feel, right down to our hair and skin.
Why nutrition matters so much
Nutrition sits at the very centre of this. Low iron and ferritin, for example, are well recognised as factors in hair thinning, because hair follicles depend on a steady supply of oxygen and nutrients to thrive. B vitamins, zinc, and magnesium all play their part too.
Often, simply helping the body absorb and rebuild these stores through nourishing food and the right support can make a real difference to how someone feels day to day.
My approach
My approach is always personal. No two people are the same, and no two healing journeys are either. I usually work with clients over a series of one-to-one sessions, combining:
•
• gentle gut and nutritional support
• an anti-inflammatory, mindful approach to food
• histamine-aware eating, where it's needed
• stress reduction, relaxation, and emotional support
• practical self-care skills you can carry with you for life
This is never about quick fixes. It's about helping you understand your own body, learn what it's trying to tell you, and giving it the conditions it needs to find its balance again.
Working with you, not against your care
This matters to me deeply: holistic care works best alongside your medical team, never instead of it. I will never ask you to stop any treatment your doctor has prescribed. My role is to support your whole-body wellbeing and to walk beside you on the journey.
