Colne Osteopathy Hands on Health in Pendle. Detailed postural and osteopathic assessment, and manual treatment for a range of complaints.

The method involves careful assessment of pelvic rotation and restrictions. Patients are regularly given detailed but down to earth explanations of treatment options and the proposed causes of their symptoms both long and short term. This results in rapidly effective treatment often.

Good Morning.

I understand that for many people back pain is back pain and so the back /neck muscles are what I should treat in their minds.

I also realise that the idea of other parts of the body being the underlying maintaining factor, or trigger seems ridiculous.

A careful and full case history/examination frequently indicates the underlying causes/ co morbidities.

However, I know with certainty that posture work, exercises, strengthening, stretching, joint popping frequently can reduce symptoms the options are myriad.

Also the reduction of symptoms is my primary clinical aim.
..The sad thing is, that enough times to be significant people do get agitated and tell me with great authority that thy have a good diet, that they manage things OK.
..and that is true for a lot of people but what I see are reflexes and patterns around the body that mean if not looked at carefully will likely result in further changes down the line in a patient's life.

I have seen this on many occasions sometimes hearing from others people about more serious out comes.
..A naturopathic nutrition approach combined with hands on work (ostensibly Osteopathy) is a potent combo for more than pain management if the patient wants to try that health journey.

I hope that helps..and is not too preachy 😁

In years gone by people would simply consider a parasite cleanse as part of NORMAL self care.

The thing is I remember as a child being checked for some of these parasites. So, when did it change?

There are numerous things that can be done. ...From a nutritional perspective, poor digestive health is a matter of serious concern. Sadly, when you try to mention this to most people they believe that they have a "good/excellent" diet.

Did you know that most of your digestive anatomy has direct attachments to the back. So whilst nerve pain must rightly be checked, for digestion anatomy to back/neck is far more common.

Any clinician doubting this statement is welcome to contact me and I can clarify the matter very quickly- even if your degree syllabus did not cover it!

Oh boy! If only you knew the harsh reality. There are literally 1000's of university published and peer reviewed papers clearly demonstrating these facts.

Under estimate this topic at your peril .....

Bitter teas can help like "Gentian" Wormwood tea ( for the brave). But like I said the subject really is vast.

Mid back pain

A lot of people over the last few years have presented at the practice with mid back pain. Sometimes radiating up ward sometime radiating downward, usually right sided though it can be both.

This is a clinical picture that is far more common since the SARS-COVID of 2019...

In the comments below I have put a link to a presentation. There are a few possible reasons for the "BACK PAIN" as I have waxed lyrical about. I am putting this online so that people can be self aware and hopefully take self guided action. Clinicians even GP's would benefit from being aware that SUB CLINICAL presentations can occur particularly if "sick building" syndrome is suspected.

Symptoms can start after an impact or jarring event or immune challenge or environmental or toxic challenge. People will swear blind its a rib or back pain....

Cleansing the liver and supporting the deep lymphatic system is a VERY good idea.

There are various sources for liver abscess. It gets difficult to avoid long posts when trying to convey the clinical reasons.

A liver abscess is a pus-filled cavity in the liver, typically caused by bacteria, fungi, or parasites, with types including pyogenic, amoebic, and fungal. The condition has a significant mortality rate, and risk factors include advanced age, long-term diseases, and poor sanitation. Diagnosis involv...

"its the links between foods, pathogens, and muscle joint pain that will suprise you".

There are quite startling links between pathogens of different types like bacteria and mould and their toxins. Then to slightly different flow patterns of lymph, and various immune responses as well as nutrient depletion.

These are complicated interactions...but I don't make the rules I just study the data and try to apply what is meaningful to clinical practice.

Example, there are hard to shift yeasts out there like Candida. But nutrients in coconut oil (cold pressed), the consumption of S. Boulardii as well as good lymph work and manual therapy is a very good combination to battle against it...

There is a huge amount of info on this approach...

As winter comes......

As winter comes, we get less daylight less air flow in our homes as we try to keep warm.

BUT dear reader please note this link below, because if we don't manage a good air flow and indoor air quality we can suffer a lot of different symptoms.

Some experts recommend leaving leaky mould buildings but most people wont do that and black mould (various types) in particular is dangerously under estimated by most.

PLEASE DON'T UNDER ESTIMATE THE DANGERS OF BLACK MOULD
..I have seen small kids literally non verbal from being in black mould bedrooms to being chatty and alert when their families move.

Here is the link note the list of symptoms....

"catching things early'

I have been in practice as an Osteopath for 21 years. About 30 years as a manual therapist.

One of the most challenging situations is when a patient insists that they are presenting with a type of pain that they have diagnosed from their own history or google.

The reason its challenging is this:

A person will swear blind that their pain is their old rib/shoulder/sciatica/nerve pain.
But what the vast majority of people do not know is that several underlying causes of pain can feel EXACTLY the same to a person.

I do not say this lightly its a very serious matter.

During my time in practice I have seen:

Liver cancer
Pancreatic cancer
Bowel Cancer
Bladder infection
Fatty liver

There is more on that, less serious conditions, but you get the picture.

ALL presenting as rib/hip/even leg pain (sciatica).

When I ask a patient to stand up and show me exactly where the pain is I am making a serious effort to screen and safe guard from conditions that by catching early can safe guard health.

On those rare occasions that patients insist, due to their history or google. That they have a certain condition and we don't agree its because I have seen enough to know something else is going on.

Dr's/Physios/Osteopaths/Chiropractors have whole seminars dedicated to this topic of NOT relying on previous diagnosis instead of conducting a proper review of symptoms.

That is why we can catch things early. That is why we can seem pedantic. I call it being diligent...not everyone is.

If we treat with out careful screening we can miss an underlying issue.

I hope that helps.

Getting unfiltered daylight on your eyes or skin is incredibly healthy.

Just 15 minutes direct daylight has value. NO SUN CREAM.
..Unless your skin is so sensitive that you hit a histamine reaction in 15mins.
