Recent news from Hull has understandably raised concerns about the care and standards families should expect from a funeral director. We ourselves are extremely shocked and saddened that this has happened to these families.

At Denis Hartley & Son Funeral Service, we are proud to be a National Society of Allied & Independent Funeral Directors (SAIF) member and part of a community of independent funeral directors committed to professional and compassionate care.

We are regularly inspected and voluntarily regulated under the UK Funeral Director Code. Families also have access to an independent complaints process through SAIF, delivered by an externally audited and Chartered Trading Standards Institute-certified body.

Stephanie Mayall Cross ‘Steph’

The family of Steph have asked that we share her passing with you.

Steph passed away peacefully in Peel Gardens Care Home in Colne on Wednesday 8th July 2026, aged 85 years.

Beloved wife of the late Alan, much loved mum of Andrew and the late Diana and a dear auntie of Lesley, Susan, Stephen, Simon, Paul and the late Nigel.

She will be sadly missed by all her family and friends.

A funeral service to celebrate Steph’s life will be held on Tuesday 21st July 2026 at 10.00am at Crown Funeral Home, Colne followed by committal at Skipton Crematorium. Following the service the family warmly invite you to The Market Street Tavern in Colne for refreshments and to share further memories of Steph.

The family of Stephen Riley (Raz) have asked that we share his passing with you.

Stephen passed away peacefully in St James’ University Hospital in Leeds on Saturday 20th June 2026 aged 59 years with his loving family by his side.

The beloved husband of Karen, son of Barbara & Alex, brother of Andrew & Susan, proud father figure of Leon & Sami-Jo and treasured grandad of Madison, Jensen & Jacob.

Stephen was also a great friend to many and he will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A funeral service to celebrate Stephen’s life will be held on Thursday 9th July at 1.00pm at Skipton Crematorium.

The family of John Reynolds have asked that we share his passing with you.

John passed away suddenly at his home in Colne on Monday 1st June 2026, aged 68 years.

The much loved son of John and the late Rita, a dear brother of Peter and brother in law of Pauline, Uncle to Scott, Mickey, Zoe and Dion and great uncle to Keegan, Amber, Caleb, Leo and Louie.

John was also a great friend to many and he will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A funeral service to celebrate John’s life will be held on Friday 10th July 2026 at 11.00am at Skipton Crematorium. The family invite you to wear casual attire to the service.

After the service John’s family invite all who knew him back to Colne Golf Club for refreshments and to share further memories together.

Sheila Kelly

The family of Sheila have asked that we share her sad passing with you.

Sheila passed away peacefully at her home in Colne, surrounded by her loving family on Thursday 16th April 2026 aged 90 years.

Beloved wife of the late Jim, much loved mum of Susan, mother in law of Joe, dear grandma of Susanna, Andrew, Sheila and Giuseppe and loving great grandma of Helena, Connie, Isabella, Jamie, Kian and Luca.

She will be sadly missed by all her family and friends.

A Requiem Mass will be celebrated on Friday 15th May 2026 at 10.00am at Sacred Heart R.C Church in Colne followed by interment in Colne Cemetery. Following the service the family warmly invite you to ‘The Lesser Muni’ for refreshments and to share further memories of Sheila.

Much loved husband of Christine and loving husband of the late Wendy, treasured dad of Tim, Mandy, Lisa and David, step-dad of Gemma, grandad of Jennifer, Rob, Caitlin, Chloe, Matthew, Kieran and Oliver, a dear great grandad, son-in- law of Maureen and brother of the late Russell.
