Torcare - Community Volunteers Wanted!

Have you ever considered volunteering? Do you have a few hours to spare each week? Torcare is looking for community volunteers who are interested in visiting our care homes to spend time with our residents. Whether it’s reading a story, playing cards, crafting, or simply chatting, your presence can bring joy and companionship to our residents.

We believe volunteering at Torcare is a truly rewarding experience, and we’d love to have you as part of our caring community! Torcare’s Porte Rouge home offers residents the most up-to-date care facilities. The home is ideal for those who need more help and is able to care for people in the early stages of dementia.

Porte Rouge care home has a lively and sociable atmosphere and the residents here are very much encouraged to take an active role in the running of their care home. Residents enjoy a variety of innovative entertainment and planned activities.

Porte Rouge is located in a striking looking Edwardian property, which is surrounded by impressive gardens and its central location in the town of Torpoint makes Port Rouge very accessible to visitors.

Virtual reality session

A while ago some of our Old Vicarage residents took a trip back in time to their childhood beach day trips; they enjoyed building sandcastles and decorating them with shells and mini windmills; they then reminisced about seeing donkeys on the beach, fish and chips served in newspaper, the traditional Punch and Judy puppet shows and how the seagulls used to steal your sandwiches.

The residents then listened to some seaside poems and shared stories about the beaches they had visited as children. They looked at saucy postcards and even had the chance to create their own.

Finally, they took a virtual trip to the beach, where they met a turtle, explored the island, and discovered a shelter and a kayak on the beach. Our residents thoroughly enjoyed this session and are already asking when the next session is!
