Bucket collection day!

Good morning all,

We have kindly invited to setup a stand on September 11th in Asda Strabane.

All money collected on the day will go towards future events and activities for all our COS kids.

Running from 10am till 4pm, we need some help, your help!

If you are available to stand and represent COS for any period of time on this date, that would be amazing.

Please contact myself or Amy Campbell with times your available.

Thanks in advance.

So true 🥰

What if grief doesn’t get smaller? What if, instead, life grows around it?

I have shared Tonkin’s Model of Grief before, and it is one of the models I use most often in my work with clients. This time, I wanted to create my own visual of what ‘growing around grief’ can look like.

When grief first enters our lives, it can feel as though it fills everything, seeping into all of the tiny cracks. Over time, the grief itself may not become smaller, but other parts of life can gradually begin to find their way in. Connection, rest, work, hope, new experiences, joy, meaning, and even the possibility of imagining a future.

This doesn’t mean that grief moves from one stage to the next. There may be times when it feels as though grief fills everything again, even many years later. Growing around grief doesn’t mean leaving it behind, forgetting, or reaching a point where it no longer hurts. It simply offers another way of understanding how grief and life can exist alongside each other.

I think this is why Lois Tonkin’s model resonates with so many people. It doesn’t ask us to ‘get over’ our grief or suggest that there is a point when we should be finished with it. The grief is still there, but, over time, there can be more life around it.

This graphic is my own visual interpretation of Lois Tonkin’s Growing Around Grief model. I hope it finds you when you need it most. 🙏🏻💛

Affirmation of the day:

“I can carry my grief while allowing life to grow around it.”
