Free antenatal support group, in Devizes. Optimum Bumps is a free antenatal support group.

It allows anyone with a baby bump the opportunity to meet others, in a friendly and informal setting, while learning a little something about pregnancy, birth and babies along the way. Each week we have a different topic and sometimes this includes a special guest. However, please don't feel that is the only subject you can discuss during our meetings. Our discussions frequently go off on a tangent and our weekly topics are merely starting points. You can choose to come to every meeting or just to those that are of particular interest to you. The meetings are primarily for those who actually pregnant, but if you feel a bit too nervous to attend on your own, then do bring your partner, family member or friend along. It doesn't matter if you are pregnant for the very first time or have already given birth to enough children to form your own football team. As long as you have one or more small humans growing inside you, you are welcome to join us.

Next week, we are starting a run of 3 sessions. All these sessions are totally free to attend. Come along to learn about feeding your baby, packing a hospital bag (or what you might want to keep handy for a home birth) and the physiological process of giving birth, while meeting other local expectant parents, over a hot or cold drink.

It's been a long time since I posted, and a lot has happened in that time.

At the end of July, my husband was seriously injured in an RTA. He has been in and out of hospital (including an 8 day stay in the ICU of Southampton Hopsital), ever since. He is currently back home, and our lives are starting to get back to normal, although he is not yet well enough to return to work.

During this time I took a break from running Optimum Bumps. But unless the situation changes again, I am planning on re-starting sessions in October. So keep an eye out for that.

In the meantime, if you'd like to get out and meet some other expectant mums, in the Devizes area, Birth In Bloom Pregnancy Yoga start pregnancy yoga sessions tomorrow evening (Tuesday 29th September) in the Wharf Rooms, at the Kennet and Avon Canal Trust.

So, the reason for the cancellation of last night's session is that on Tuesday morning my husband was involved in an RTA, on his way to work. He was airlifted to Southampton Hospital, where he still is, and may well be for several weeks.

I will be spending a lot of time in Southampton, over the coming weeks, so will not be running any Optimum Bumps sessions until he is either back home or at the very least transferred to a more local hospital.

Sorry, but I'm having to cancel this week's session, due to a family emergency. I won't go into details now, but there may not be as many sessions as usual, over the coming weeks.

Our topic for this week (23rd July) is pain relief.

There are many options for pain relief during labour from self-hypnosis to epidurals, as well as a huge variety of other methods. This is a opportunity to discuss the various options available to you and how they might affect both you and your baby.
