East Riding Crematorium

East Riding Crematorium East Riding Crematorium, otherwise known as Octon Crematorium, opened in May 1997 by Tony Warburton. We are more than a place of farewell.

We are a sanctuary of stillness,

Today, on World Environment Day, we're reflecting on the importance of protecting and enhancing the natural spaces that surround us 🌎

Alongside being a place of remembrance, our crematoria is also a peaceful green space that provides a sanctuary for visitors, local wildlife, and the wider community. We are truly committed to creating environments that honour loved ones while supporting nature too.

Every tree planted, habitat protected, and sustainable practice adopted helps us play our part in preserving these special spaces for future generations.

As we remember those who have passed, we are also reminded of our responsibility to care for the world around us 💚

For many, summer is a season of joy - spending time outdoors, enjoying the sunshine and making memories with family and friends ☀️

But for those navigating grief, bereavement or missing a loved one, this time of year can also feel incredibly difficult and isolating.

If you’re feeling that way, please know you are not alone 🤍

One thing we are very proud of is being able to offer our beautiful grounds as a peaceful and welcoming space for reflection, remembrance and quiet moments. Whether your loved one is resting with us or not, you are always welcome to visit, sit quietly and take time for yourself 🌿🕊️

Step into the memorial grounds,
And the world begins to quiet 🌿

The gentle breeze, the singing birds,
The softness of the flowers in bloom.

For a little while,
Nothing else seems to exist,
Except peace, reflection,
And the feeling of being close to those we love

Everyone is welcome to visit the crematorium and experience the moments of calm that it creates.

The band had the honour of playing at the funeral of one of their own yesterday. George Artley. A very fitting flower arrangement for the man who loved his music.

Supporting children through grief can sometimes feel difficult, especially when they don’t always have the words to explain how they’re feeling 🤍

That’s why we have our Letters to Heaven Children’s Activity Book - a gentle resource designed to help little ones process emotions, remember someone special and feel supported through bereavement.

Filled with thoughtful activities, writing prompts, drawing spaces, poems and memory ideas, the book encourages conversation, reflection and emotional support in a way that feels comforting and accessible for children.

The resource is available to support teachers, parents and families, with downloadable pages that can be used within schools or at home to help children explore and express their feelings around grief in a gentle and supportive way 🤍

(You're welcome to download and print the pages as needed 🌼)
