Could you spare a few minutes to help us shine a light on accessible reading this Volunteers Week? All you need to do is pop down to your local library in June and check out their offer of audio books or large print titles.

Not only will you be taking part in this year’s Big Help Out, your feedback will help us build a clearer picture of accessible reading services across the UK. Because everyone should have the chance to enjoy reading in an accessible format that works for them.

[Video description and transcript:
Lara stands outside Maidenhead library, beside a sign showing the opening hours.
I'm Lara, I work for the RNIB, and I'm here to show you how you participate in our Big Help Out micro volunteering opportunity.
So I am here at Maidenhead Library to show you exactly what you do. So, come with me.
[Inside the library, Lara stands beside shelves with a Large Print sign above them]
Lovely selection of large print books. All you need to do is take a photograph either of the large print books or you can take a photo of yourself with books.
Post that on social media tagging Big Help Out, RNIB, hashtag HiVis.
And, for extra credit, you can go find some accessible books in your children's library as well.
Here in Maidenhead, we have something very special. Giant print and braille, and more talking books on CDs.
[Lara holds up a large print and braille version of The Tiger Who Came to Tea]
So again you would just take a picture of the stock and yourself. It can just be just the stock. If you don't want to be in the picture that's absolutely fine.
And then again put it on social media. Any platform is fine.
Tag Big Help Out, RNIB, hashtag HiVis.
Thank you so much.]

Our Volunteers Week celebrations continue!

Meet Joyce, who volunteers with our Cumbernauld Peer Support Group. This is a lovely group of people who come along to connect and share with each other.

Thank you Joyce, for giving volunteering a chance, and to every one of our volunteers who has done the same!

Happy Volunteers Week!

Meet Antoni, one of our wonderful volunteers at our Edinburgh Products and Advice Centre, helping customers find the products that make everyday life a wee bit easier.

A huge thank you to Antoni and every single one of our volunteers for your time, care, and dedication which means the world. Look out for more volunteer stories coming later this week!

[Video description: Antoni talks to camera while sat in the shop. While he speaks, there is footage of him volunteering in the shop, speaking with a shop customer and fellow volunteers, and of the products available.]

"It's helped me to have the confidence to speak out."

Hear from Jen on RNIB Connect Radio about our Public Speaking Course, which just has a few spaces left! https://bit.ly/49INjmM

We're partnering again with Glasgow Speakers Club to run a weekly Public Speaking course for blind and partially sighted people this summer.

Participants will develop confidence speaking in different situations from social settings to job interviews. Our previous participants delivered fantastic speeches at Glasgow City Chambers, and we’re excited to do it again!

The course will take place as weekly sessions on Wednesday afternoons in June and early July, with a final event on 13 July.

Let us know you're interested by popping a message to [email protected]
