A self-compassion and mindfulness workshop exploring how we can quiet the inner critic, cultivate self-kindness and develop a healthier relationship with ourselves.

Ever wonder why we’re so prone to negative thinking, worry or hypervigilance?

I’m currently reading Stop Missing Your Life by Cory Muscara (highly recommended for anyone interested in mindfulness, by the way 📖❤️), and he explains it beautifully.

Our brains evolved to keep us alive, not necessarily happy.

Imagine one of our ancestors walking through the forest thousands of years ago.

If they noticed the beautiful flowers but missed the tiger hiding in the bushes, they were in trouble.

If they noticed the tiger but missed the flowers, they survived.

Over time, our brains became incredibly skilled at scanning for potential threats, problems and dangers.

The trouble is that many of us are still carrying that ancient wiring today.

We notice the criticism more than the compliments.

The mistake more than the successes.

The problem more than what’s going well.

This negativity bias can contribute to stress, anxiety and low mood because our attention naturally gravitates towards what feels threatening or wrong….this has a huge impact on our emotional wellbeing over time.

The good news? Awareness changes things. Mindfulness isn’t about pretending there are no tigers. It’s about learning to notice the flowers too ❤️

Today has been lovely 🥰 I spent time with someone who first came into my life through my work many years ago and who has since become a dear friend.

As I was driving home, it got me reflecting on one of the unexpected gifts of this work….the people.

Over the years, I’ve taught hundreds of classes, workshops, courses and trainings. I’ve met people from all walks of life, all arriving with their own stories, challenges and reasons for stepping into OTC.

And every now and then something really lovely happens. I make a friend for life 🥰

Whilst yoga, mindfulness and wellbeing may bring us together initially, it’s often the connection, kindness and shared humanity that keeps us in each other’s lives.

I never imagined when I started teaching that some of the people who walked through the door would go on to become such an important part of my world.

There are several people I can think of who arrived as students or clients and who, over time, have become treasured friends.

For that, I’ll always be grateful ❤️

While planning this week's Introduction to Pranayama Workshop, I found myself reflecting on how much being a yoga teacher has expanded beyond teaching weekly classes.

Over the years I've had opportunities to deliver workshops, wellbeing sessions, mindfulness programmes, and work with students in educational settings.

If you're considering yoga teacher training, remember that your qualification can be the beginning of many different paths. Follow your interests, be creative, and stay open to opportunities.

Your yoga teaching journey can become whatever you choose to make it. ✨
