Most people think excess weight only causes back pain because it puts more pressure on the spine.
But that’s only half the story.
Weight gain changes posture and spinal alignment — often creating an anterior pelvic tilt that increases stress on the low back. It’s one of the same reasons many women experience back pain during pregnancy.
The second issue is happening internally.
Increased visceral fat around the organs raises inflammatory chemicals called cytokines throughout the body. That chronic inflammation can make it significantly harder for low back pain to heal.
So if you’re struggling with persistent back pain, the solution may need to address more than just the spine itself.
Healing the back starts with healing the whole body.
