💜 𝕊𝕦𝕡𝕡𝕠𝕣𝕥𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕐𝕠𝕦𝕟𝕘 ℂ𝕒𝕣𝕖𝕣𝕤 – ℂ𝕒𝕣𝕖𝕣𝕤 𝕎𝕖𝕖𝕜 𝟠𝕥𝕙-𝟙𝟜𝕥𝕙 𝕁𝕦𝕟𝕖💜

This week marks Carers Week, an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face, and recognise their incredible contributions to families and communities across the UK.

➡️10.6 million carers in the UK
➡️ 1 million young carers
➡️ 1 in 5 children & young people are young carers

For young carers, balancing education, personal wellbeing, and caring responsibilities can be overwhelming—affecting their mental health and life chances.

Choosing the right support for your child

There’s a lot of talk at the moment about “therapeutic coaching” for children and families.

And whilst any support can feel valuable when you’re struggling, not all support is the same.

At The Parachute Project, we’ve built something different.

We are a professionally led service, grounded in real experience of working with children, families, trauma, safeguarding, and emotional wellbeing.

As a service led by a Social Work England registered professional, accountability matters to us.

We directly employ our team because quality matters. We choose people with specialist skills, invest in them, support their development, and ensure they receive ongoing clinical supervision.

That means families aren’t just accessing someone with a title—they’re accessing a service with oversight, standards, and professional accountability.

But what matters most is that we don’t believe children should have to fit a model.

Some need space to talk.

Some need therapeutic support.
Some need practical strategies.

Some families need someone to help hold everything together for a while.

So we stay flexible and respond to what the child and family actually need—not what a fixed programme says they should need.

Because when a child is anxious, overwhelmed, struggling in school, self-harming, or just not coping, families need more than generic advice.

They need people who genuinely understand what they’re seeing—and know how to help.

That’s what The Parachute Project is about.

🎉 Exciting News! 🎉

We’re thrilled to be working with the amazing children at 𝗜𝗻𝗴𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 this month! We’ll be 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀 to help pupils explore what transition and change can feel like — whether it’s moving up a year group, meeting new teachers, or starting Secondary School.

Together, we’re learning to recognise how change can affect both emotions and physical reactions, and we’re supporting pupils to develop practical strategies that help them feel confident, calm, and resilient when facing something new.

Building these skills early makes a huge difference, and we’re so excited to be helping these brilliant young people prepare for the transitions ahead.

Here are some helpful questions to ask to make the transition smoother 👇🏻

👩‍🏫 𝗔𝘀𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱’𝘀 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹:
▪️ How are you supporting my child through this change?
▪️ What are you sharing with the new school to help them understand my child?
▪️ How are you helping them build independence before September?

🏫 𝗔𝘀𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹:
▪️ How will staff be made aware of my child’s needs?
▪️ Can we agree on one main contact for easier communication?
▪️ Who can my child talk to if they’re worried or anxious?
▪️ What support is available to help with the bigger environment and new timetable?

💬 Top tip: Make sure both you and your child have a voice in any transition meeting. Your insights matter.
