It always makes me smile when I walk into a patient’s home and discover they still have their furry family members by their side..🐾💚
To me, it says three things:
1. Unconditional love and companionship.
The way my patient and his little dog looked at each other was pure love. There’s nothing quite like the bond between a person and their pet.
2. A reason to keep moving.
Even if they’re not as mobile as they once were, many of my patients are still walking, staying active, and getting outside because their four-legged companion depends on them.
3. A sense of purpose and routine.
Dogs don’t let you forget dinner time! They’ll let you know at 5:01 pm if dinner is late. As a result, many of my patients also stick to a regular eating schedule, often sharing mealtimes with their canine companion. Dogs bring structure, consistency, and a sense of purpose to each day, helping to establish healthy routines that benefit both pets and their owners.
At Foot & Leg Clinic, and as a former GB athlete, I’ve always believed that movement is one of the greatest investments we can make in our health. Without our health, what do we really have?
Having a dog has always been one of the best ways for me to stay active, and I see that same positive impact in so many of my pet-owning patients. Sometimes, the best personal trainer has four paws and a wagging tail..🐶💚
