We treated this very painful corn, hidden beneath a thick layer of callus, just in time before the skin underneath deteriorated further and developed into an ulcer.

You don’t fully appreciate the importance of foot health until something goes wrong and when it does, problems can escalate remarkably quickly.

⚠️ Callus Can Kill ⚠️

Okay, I need to dial it back a bit but it’s not incorrect!

Before-and-after images of callus debridement are SO satisfying to look at but they represent much more than cosmetic change.

Callus debridement is an important clinical procedure. While it does improve comfort and appearance, its primary purpose is to reduce excessive pressure on the skin. Thickened callus increases localised pressure, which can lead to tissue breakdown underneath.

Regular debridement helps lower the risk of ulceration, particularly in high-risk patients. Clinical evidence shows that removing callus can significantly reduce plantar pressures which is a key contributor to ulcer formation.

Unmanaged callus can progress to ulcers, infection, and in severe cases, amputation. These outcomes can reduce mobility, increase overall health complications, and shorten life expectancy, WHICH IS WHY PREVENTION IS SO IMPORTANT!
