Just hanging out here waiting 🥰
Joking aside it is really important that we wait until the wound is completely closed with no scabs or open sections and this typically takes around 6-8 weeks if there has been no infection before doing anything with moisturising or massaging the scar.
Until that time it’s really important that you keep the area clean (with water only) and pat dry and check it often for healing or signs of infection as you would want to get treatment from the GP quickly if you need it.
You can gently use your hands to sweep in the area around your tummy out from the centre towards your hips and armpits just to encourage flow of the lymphatic fluid which can be helpful to aid healing of the tissue. Tapping or brushing gently with a clean make up brush in the area around your scar will help with numbness.
Gentle breathing exercises and pelvic floor exercises will help engage your core and assist lymphatic flow which in turn will help with healing in the early days & weeks.
Nutrition and hydration is important too so drinking plenty fluids and a balanced diet will help make good quality tissue.
When there is new skin along the length then it is important to start very gently moisturising with a natural product (rosehip, coconut, grapeseed oil, aloe vera, Naydaya are all good choices).
When you are ready to start the initial scar therapy appointment it includes a full individual holistic assessment, complete with, assessment of the scar, your posture, diastasis recti (tummy muscles as this can affect function & appearance), movement & breath work.
This is followed by setting of individualised treatment goals & a hands on massage to target those agreed issues. Finally, I will give advice on self-help techniques & if applicable scar products that can be used at home will be given to encourage ongoing healing ❤️🩹
