Hi folks π Let me share something Iβve seen...
As a massage therapist, the part of people I work with most closely is, of course, their body. And sometimes, our bodies can tell us very honestly how they are feeling and what they may be struggling with.
One of the things that concerns me most is that many of my clients spend long hours sitting in front of computers, which often leads to tightness and tension in the neck, shoulders and upper back. Others may experience lower back pain due to a lack of exercise.
But there is something else that worries me even more⦠sugar.
When I first arrived in Scotland almost five years ago, I remember trying a Scottish doughnut for the first time. I was honestly surprised by just how sweet it was! Unfortunately, many desserts I tried afterwards didnβt really change my impression. Iβve also noticed that many people enjoy hot chocolate, energy bars, energy drinks, fried foods and fast food, which can all contribute to a diet high in sugar and unhealthy fats.
Too much sugar can affect our health in many ways. It may contribute to inflammation and can affect proteins in our body, including collagen, which is important for the elasticity of our skin and tissues. A high-sugar diet can also contribute to fatigue and increase the risk of health problems such as type 2 diabetes.
From a beauty point of view, too much sugar may also contribute to premature skin ageing, including wrinkles and dull-looking skin.
I know life can be busy, and sometimes finding time to exercise isn't easy. But perhaps next time you have a meal or reach for a snack, try to be a little more mindful of how much sugar you are consuming. Even small changes can make a difference to how you feel.
Taking care of your body doesn't always have to mean making huge changes. π Start with one small step at a time β your body will thank you for it.
Let's eat a little better, feel a little lighter, and give our bodies the care they deserve. β¨
