SAMH Scotland’s national mental health charity 🧡 SAMH is the Scottish Association for Mental Health. At SAMH we believe there is no health without mental health.

One in four people in Scotland will have a mental health problem at some point in their life. This means that you may know someone with a mental health problem, or maybe you're worried about your own mental health. We're here to provide help, information and support; to campaign on behalf of people with mental health problems and to raise money to fund our vital work. We're here for everyone, and we're here for you. SAMH is Scotland's leading mental health charity

Radio presenter Beth Wallace has shared her experience with su***de with our friends at United to Prevent Su***de.

Before joining radio full-time, Beth worked in SAMH's su***de prevention team, training her local community to identify signs of poor mental health and support people at risk.

We're proud to see Beth open up about her own experiences 🧡

What is mental health stigma?

Amy from our Workplace team explains what mental health stigma is, and how it can turn into discrimination against people with mental health problems.

We all have a role in tackling mental health stigma. Our latest campaign, Show Up, shares a few tips including:

- Listening to others without judgement
- Learning more about stigma and discrimination
- Offering practical support to others

The Scottish Government has recently published their Programme for Government, outlining their priorities for the next five years.

The government have committed to supporting the expansion of walk-in mental health hubs, including The Nook by SAMH.

Billy Watson, our Chief Exec, said:

"With more than 8,000 visitors in less than a year of operation, The Nook is delivering accessible, effective support to hundreds of people in Glasgow and Aberdeen every week, and is already established as a key element of Scotland’s mental health system.

"With this commitment to investment in The Nook, the Scottish Government is choosing to make longstanding ambitions to prioritise early intervention and prevention, and to shift mental health support to the community, a reality. We look forward to working with the Scottish Government to build the evidence base which demonstrates the effectiveness of the Nook model, improving mental health across our communities and relieving pressure on the NHS.

"We will take some time to consider what else is included in - and missing from - the Programme for Government, and share fuller views in the near future."

The sun was shining on Chrysalis last Thursday as volunteers, participants and staff came together for a special celebration☀️.

Chrysalis, a therapeutic garden in Broughty Ferry, supports the local community's mental health and wellbeing through gardening and a range of outdoor activities. The event brought everyone together to enjoy creative writing, arts activities, delicious food and, of course, some gardening in the beautiful surroundings of Dawson Park.

It was a wonderful day of creativity, connection and community, celebrating the people who make Chrysalis such a special place. 💚🌱
