World Mental Health Day takes place on Saturday 10 October 2026. The official theme is set annually by the World Federation for Mental Health:

“Support starts…with being heard.”

There are many and varied reasons people may approach HDS looking for counselling. It might be that a particular life event has precipitated your search, a relational issue or how you find yourself feeling about feel life. Many people have someone they can talk to however engaging in counselling at HDS is different to this. Our skilled psychodynamic counsellors will help build a therapeutic relationship with you which will help you navigate your personal challenges and grow through them.

You will be heard and supported.

Being heard helps us feel understood, less alone, and more able to cope with the challenges we face.

If you would find it helpful to be heard please contact us at

21/04/2026

HDS are strengthening our Board, expanding our psychotherapy & training offer and finding our voice as a public advocate for deeper thinking in Scotland's workplaces, public services and communities.

We are looking for trustees who want to be part of that.

You do not need to be an expert in psychodynamic theory. You do need to be genuinely curious about what lies beneath the surface of organisations and people and committed to the belief that this kind of thinking can make a real difference.

As a trustee, you will bring sound judgement, integrity and a willingness to play an active role: attending quarterly Board meetings, an annual trustee development day, contributing to working groups, and engaging meaningfully with our mission.
