A fit, healthy colleague grabs their chest and collapses.

People hesitate.

“They’re young… it can’t be their heart.”

That assumption costs time. And time is everything.

Cardiac arrest does not care about age, fitness, or appearance. It can happen to anyone, anywhere, without warning.

What matters is what your team does next.

Chest pain could be angina. It could be a heart attack. Or it could become cardiac arrest within minutes.

If it is serious, every minute without action reduces survival.

Call 999 immediately. Help them rest. Give aspirin if appropriate. And if they stop breathing, start CPR and use an AED straight away.

AEDs are designed to guide you. You cannot get it wrong.

But hesitation is where outcomes change.

Would your team act instantly or second guess themselves?

Because second guessing is where lives are lost.

Training gives your team the confidence to step in, take control, and act fast.

If you want your team ready for that moment, the next step is simple.

The Purple Guide
Effective medical planning starts long before your event opens.
Whether you’re organising a local community event or a large-scale festival, the level of medical, first aid and ambulance provision should always be proportionate to the size, nature and risk profile of your event.
The Medical chapter of The Purple Guide provides good practice guidance to help organisers assess their medical requirements and plan appropriate provision.
The chapter covers:
• Assessing the level of medical cover needed
• Carrying out a Medical Needs Assessment
• Choosing a competent medical provider
• Staffing levels and qualifications
• Medical facilities and vehicles
• Communications and record keeping
• Mental health and safeguarding
• Planning for incidents, transfers and post-event review
At a minimum, every event should have a qualified first aider present, but larger or more complex events will require more comprehensive medical provision based on a thorough risk assessment.

Thank you to the current Medical Working Group for reviewing and maintaining this guidance:
Dr Chris Howes (Festival Medical Services), David J Parry (Festival Medical Services), Jim Jones (Passion First Aid) and Owain Davies (Acos Medical Ltd).

A child becomes drowsy in your setting.

An adult complains of a severe headache and goes home.

It does not feel urgent.

It is.

This is how meningitis gets missed.

It does not always look dramatic. No rash. No clear signs. Just someone who seems off, tired, confused, or unwell.

That uncertainty is what causes delay.

And meningitis does not wait.

It can escalate in hours, leading to life changing consequences or worse.

Anyone can be affected. In schools, workplaces, care settings, anywhere.

The difference is recognising the signs early and acting immediately.

Calling for help. Trusting your instincts. Not waiting for proof.

So ask yourself.

Would your team act straight away or second guess it?

Because hesitation is where risk grows.

Training gives your team the confidence to recognise the signs and act without delay.

If you want your team ready when it matters most, the next step is simple.

Someone screams in the water.

They come out clutching their leg.

Someone pours fresh water over it.

Someone urinates on it.

The pain gets worse.

This is how simple mistakes turn sea stings into bigger problems.

Stings from jellyfish or similar creatures leave venom on the skin. The wrong response can trigger more of it.

Fresh water is a common mistake. It can make the sting worse.

What actually helps is simple.

Hot water to break down the venom.
Seawater if that is all you have.
Vinegar for certain stings.

Small actions that make a big difference in those first minutes.

But there is a bigger risk most people miss.

Anaphylaxis.

Breathing problems. Swelling. Rapid deterioration.

Now it is a medical emergency.

So ask yourself.

Would you know what to do or rely on guesswork?

Because guesswork is what escalates situations.

Training gives you the confidence to act quickly and correctly, wherever you are.

If you want that confidence, the next step is simple.

Hot Weather - Heat Stroke and Heat Exhaustion
An employee says they feel dizzy in the heat.

They brush it off. Say they just need a minute.

You let them carry on.

Then they collapse.

This is how heat related illness turns serious fast.

Heat exhaustion is the warning sign. Dizziness, confusion, clammy skin, cramps. This is where early action matters.

Move them somewhere cool. Give fluids. Start lowering their temperature.

Ignore it, and it can escalate into heat stroke.

Now you are dealing with a life threatening emergency.

Hot skin. Confusion. Rapid pulse. A dangerously high body temperature.

At that point, it is urgent.

Would your team recognise the signs early or dismiss them?

Because early action is what prevents escalation.

Training gives your team the confidence to step in before it becomes critical.

If you want your team ready for situations like this, the next step is simple.

Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Would you know what to do?
Someone collapses in your workplace.

They are not breathing.

People step back.

Because they are afraid of getting it wrong.

This is the moment that decides everything.

And the biggest mistake is not bad CPR.

It is no CPR.

When someone is in cardiac arrest, they are already clinically dead. You cannot make it worse. You can only give them a chance.

Every minute without CPR reduces survival. And yet people hesitate because they are worried about causing harm.

Broken ribs can heal.

Brain damage from lack of oxygen cannot.

The action is simple.

Call for help.

Push hard and fast in the centre of the chest.

That alone can double or even triple someone’s chance of survival.

No equipment needed. No medical background required.

Just the decision to act.

But in workplaces everywhere, people still freeze. They wait for someone else. They hope help arrives in time.

That delay is what costs lives.

So ask yourself this.

If this happened in your workplace today, would someone step forward immediately or would everyone hesitate?

Because that confidence is not luck.

It is trained.

If you want a team that steps in instead of stepping back, the next step is simple.
