Chance Is Change

Chance Is Change is a life coaching and mentoring service. Every chance is an opportunity to change.

Here at Chance Is Change we believe that every child and young person should be given a chance to change and to succeed. Our goal is to establish partnerships within the community, work collaboratively with school staff, parents and outside agencies for example the Police, promote continued care and inclusion for young people, and to create a positive pathway to further education. By assessing a young persons challenging behaviour, Interventions can be developed which are unique to the student, helping them to thrive and become successful in the classroom and outside the classroom. Life coaching is an important factor in creating a positive platform for children and young people.

💙 Welcome to the Team, Leon Roberts 💙

We’re really pleased to welcome Leon Roberts to the Chance Is Change team as our new Awareness & Prevention Lead. 👏

Leon brings an incredible amount of experience, having spent 27 years with the Youth Support Team as a Senior Programme Officer, supporting children, young people and families across Gloucestershire.

Throughout his career, Leon has designed and delivered programmes aimed at addressing the behaviours, choices and circumstances that can lead young people towards the criminal justice system.

Leon also ran Gloucester’s Attendance Centre and headed up the Great Expectations Programme alongside Gloucestershire Constabulary, a groundbreaking programme which saw serving prisoners come out on day release to engage with young people in the community and share their lived experiences. 🤝

He has extensive experience delivering community safety programmes within schools and educational settings and has worked directly with youth violence, street based gangs, organised crime, exploitation and knife culture.

Before joining the Youth Support Team, Leon worked within residential care homes, holiday and after school clubs with primary aged children, as well as being part of a crisis team linked with Glosaid Youth Action.

💡 A huge part of Leon’s approach is around awareness.

We’re not simply here to educate young people or tell them what choices to make. We want to create awareness, because once you become aware of something, you can choose to ignore it, but you can never become unaware of it. 👀

That awareness can create an opportunity to make a different choice. Speed bumps are there to slow you down, to make you pause and think before you carry on the same path. Avoiding the fires is about changing direction completely, stepping away from situations that could cause harm before you get too close. 🔥

That fits perfectly with what we believe at Chance Is Change. 💙

💚 WELCOME TO THE TEAM, KATY! 💚

We’re really excited to introduce Katy, the newest member of the Chance Is Change team.

Katy will be joining the G Mentors side of Chance Is Change, while also heading up our brand new PA branch, another exciting addition to our forever growing Tree of Support 🌳

Katy brings experience from working within care, supported living and SEN settings, supporting individuals with autism, learning disabilities and complex needs.

She also provides care at home for her brother, which has given her a real understanding of the patience, empathy and consistency that can be needed when supporting someone day to day. Alongside her professional experience, this has helped build Katy’s passion for supporting others and making a positive difference.

What makes Katy joining the team even more special for us is that our journey with her actually goes back many years, to when we first worked with Katy as one of our students in school. To now welcome her back, this time as a member of our team, is something we’re incredibly proud of.

It really is a full circle moment, and in many ways, this is exactly what G Mentors is all about.

Taking your own experiences, your own journey and everything you have learnt along the way, and using that to help guide and support the next generation.

Katy will be joining Charlotte and Josh, who are already doing some great work through G Mentors, and we’re really excited to see what Katy brings to the team and to our new PA branch.
