Start and Recovery Connections had a jam packed weekend!

Three events took place both home and away. The Recovery Football Team travelled to York on Saturday to take place in a national tournament and although they didn't win they manged to take both second and third places!

Meanwhile, back in Hartlepool both Start and Recovery Connections staff, volunteers, ambassadors and members of the Recovery Community attended the wonderful Pride Celebrations at the Hartlepool Art Gallery and the public space on Church Square. They joined in the parade and managed to have lots of conversations about Recovery throughout the event. As you can see in the photographs, a very colourful time was had by all.

To end the weekend the Hartlepool Recovery Cricket Team played their first game of the season, away at the wonderfully welcoming Peterlee Cricket Club at their ground the Helford Oval. Unfortunately the team didn't win but it was never about winning. The game was played in a spirit of inclusivity, friendship, sportsmanship and the kind of camaraderie that can be grown through sport. The team took a fantastic travelling group of supporters with them, a communal picinic took place and we would like to thank Peterlee Cricket Club for the wonderful welcome, for being such gracious hosts and promoting the event. Lets hope this is the first of many.

The cricket and football sessions are open to all those accessing Start and Recovery Connections.

As it's Volunteers Week we want to highlight one of our fantastic volunteers, Natalie! 🌼

Natalie volunteers with Start and was even chosen to officially open the new Start Drug and Alcohol Treatment Centre.

Natalie said: "I volunteer at start as I want to make a difference to people's lives. I love learning all there is to know about the service. Working alongside the recovery coordinators, the clinical team and being out in the community with the health liaison/harm minimisation team. Everyone is so willing to teach me new things, its a wonderful team to be part of."

Start provides top quality care to residents of Hartlepool and those who volunteer within the service are an important part of that.

This week, we’re celebrating the incredible volunteers who make such a difference at Start 💙

We’re lucky to have such dedicated, passionate and versatile people supporting the work we do every day. Today, we’d like to shine a light on three amazing individuals who give their time to benefit our service, our clients and the wider community 👇

✨ Sam – Sam leads our weekly art sessions at Hartlepool Art Gallery, where she’s built fantastic relationships with attendees. She’ll also play a key role in our September exhibition for National Recovery Month. Outside of Start, Sam co-chairs Pool Together for Wellbeing , a true community champion!

✨ Natalie – Since joining last October, Natalie has become an invaluable part of the Start family. She supports our Health Liaison/Harm Minimisation Lead in the community and also volunteers with Recovery Connections. Having recently completed a Health & Social Care qualification, she’s now looking to take the next step into employment in the field

✨ Joanne – At the beginning of her volunteering journey with us, Joanne is shadowing teams and starting training. She also volunteers with Recovery Connections and has recently graduated as one of their ambassadors – an incredible achievement!

All three represent Start and our clients brilliantly, and their impact is truly valued 🙌
