Nancy celebrated the tender young age of 90 today .
Family and friends surprised Nancy with a lovely meal at Coast . Nancy's gorgeous cake was based on her time playing bowls . Such a clever lady who made it.I was honoured to be invited too . Thankyou to you all . Everyone made me so very welcome . ###
Nancy's bowling friends joined her and she was totally amazed . It has brought back such fond memories. She spoke about it going back home .
When back at The Downes Nancy waded through all of her amazing gifts . She said she was very lucky ! I replied everyone is lucky to have you Nancy . Xx
Its fair to say she has had a wonderful birthday.
I placed all of her beautiful cards on the lounge wall , so she can look at them all . Flowers have been placed in water , balloons hung and gifts put away in her room, so she can enjoy them all . Such a truly amazing day . A Very Happy 90th Birthday Nancy from us all at The Downes Care Home . X###x

Oh wow ! We have been checking on our gardening ! Beans are growing away , late we know but it's fun . Tomatoes growing nicely too .
Nance Lake visit this afternoon with such lovely residents , all looking after one another . I absolutely adore my job ! They were engaging with each other and either enjoying coffee , icecream or cake.
The weather was hot hot hot !!! So we took shelter in the cafe . The staff were so helpful and attentive. Cakes !!! Well , they went down nicely thankyou .
Vanilla and clotted cream icecream was loved along with the chocolate. Thankyou for welcoming all of us .

Well !! what a week and a bit since our lovely fete !
"I once was !? " all about careers throughout the residents lives . I ask questions at times and using our white board. I get to know more and more about every individual.
We have been baking delicious cheese and herb scones ! And ofcourse consumed them . Many laughs and giggles . Memory games keeping minds sharp.
Ball games on the tables.
Meditation groups in the morning, just to let you all know we were awake just closing our eyes for peace and calm .
Hand exercises , so important especially for holding our tea and cake ha ha. We used soft balls to help with finger stiffness . Exercises helping with not only using frames and walking sticks, but for everyday chores. Washing , brushing teeth and hair , eating , drinking and getting in and out of chairs and beds . As we all say here . If you don't use it , you ll lose it !!!!
We had a couple of piano duets from our resident Lydia and Jeremy a visitor to our wonderful home .
Card making using different techniques and equipment.
We have had walks and talks, reminiscing over old times whist enjoying our tea , coffee and biscuits .
We have kept the activities to indoors, protecting our residents from the strong rays . For some they have ventured out ,but we always make sure the sunscreen is on , umbrellas are up , and hats placed on heads .
We had exercises to help keep resident's mobility.
Its important to ask if the residents would like to help lay the diningroom tables and do a couple of daily tasks . This helps with their mental health and gain a sense of achievement.
As you can tell , we have many varied activities here at The Downes .
We will be looking at Halloween crafts soon !!!.yes , I know it's only August but we have lots to do .
So much laughter along the way .

A huge thank you to our wonderful residents, families, and friends who joined us for our Summer Fete on Saturday — your support made the day truly special!

👏 And last but certainly not least, thank you to our incredible staff team who worked so hard behind the scenes and throughout the day to make this event such a success.

🎉 Together, we raised £1,344.12 for our Residents’ Activities Fund — every penny will go towards creating more joyful moments for our residents.

This last week has been busy making, baking and eating . Crafting different icecreams to taste . Blueberry. Strawberry , Raspberry and then firm favourite Lemon . All of these were consumed along with meringues , chocolate chips and tiny marshmallow shapes . Baking, we made fruit scones and plain . Ofcourse we ate them the Cornish Way , jam then cream .
Colouring in and painting some of our ladies nails, we all need a pamper from time to time .
My!!! what happy smiling faces we had all round . Walks in the beautiful grounds , making the most of this lovely weather . Garry and I enjoyed a trip into Coronation Park in Helston . Taking in all the gorgeous surroundings and ofcourse popping into the cafe for a tea and coffee . I can definitely recommend a visit . The Boating lake , bringing back memories . Sharing all about the river cober with Garry . Thankyou to our lovely residents for yet another fab week .
