Some of the most useful advice we give in clinic has nothing to do with rehab.
A significant number of people across Hexham and the Tyne Valley are covered by a workplace health cash plan and have never used it. The scheme sits in the staff handbook, the contribution comes out of payroll every month, and the benefit goes unclaimed year after year.
Here's the distinction worth understanding. A health cash plan is not private medical insurance. Insurance is built around hospital admission and surgery, with premiums to match. A cash plan works the other way a smaller monthly amount, and an annual allowance you can claim back against routine treatment that keeps you working and moving. Physiotherapy sits squarely in that category.
Providers include Bupa, WPA, Westfield Health and Cigna, among others. We're registered with all the major ones and we see staff from several of Hexham's larger employers on a regular basis.
The process is straightforward. You book an appointment and pay at the clinic as normal. We provide the receipt and any documentation your provider requires. You submit the claim, and in most cases the money is back with you within a few days.
What this changes is timing. The most common reason people delay a physiotherapy assessment is cost, and delay is what turns a manageable problem into a stubborn one. If the cover is already sitting there, there's no reason to wait for the injury to settle on its own.
Two things worth doing this week: check your staff benefits portal or ask HR whether a cash plan is included, and if you're not sure what it covers, ring us. We can usually tell you within a couple of minutes.
