👣 Have you stopped doing something you used to enjoy because your body doesn't feel quite the same anymore? 👣

For many people, the changes happen gradually. Recovery takes longer. Stiffness becomes more noticeable. Confidence starts to shrink before we even realise it.

The good news is that change doesn't have to mean stopping.

Our latest article in All About Horsham magazine, 'When the Body Begins to Change', explores how we can adapt, stay active, and keep doing the things that matter most to us, even when our bodies start asking us to do things a little differently.

Because the goal isn't to turn back the clock. It's to keep moving forwards.

👣 Custom Orthotics: More Than Just Insoles

Custom-made orthotics are designed to help support the way your feet move and function during everyday life, work, walking or sport.

For some people, they can help reduce strain on joints and soft tissues, improve comfort, and support stability and movement over longer periods of time.

At Feet & Motion, orthotics are never simply handed out as a “one size fits all” solution. We combine assessment, gait analysis, footwear advice and clinical experience to decide whether orthotics are likely to help, and if so, which type and design may be most appropriate.

Sometimes small changes in support can make a surprisingly big difference to comfort and confidence when moving 👣

⭐ More Kind Words for Olive ⭐

We love hearing how the right assessment and advice can make a real difference to everyday comfort and movement 👣

“Olive was incredibly knowledgeable, gave us the right tests and information to buy trainers that helped solve our foot problems.”

Choosing the right footwear can have a huge impact on foot pain, stability and mobility — and sometimes small changes make the biggest difference.

Thank you, Phil, for your kind review and recommendation 💙

👣☀️Summer Sandals & Foot Pain ☀️👣

Not all sandals are created equal.

At this time of year, we often see an increase in heel pain, arch pain and irritated joints simply because people switch from supportive trainers into very flat sandals or loose sliders overnight.

One of the biggest things we recommend is thinking about what you’re actually asking your feet to do.

Pottering around the house or garden?
A cushioned 'recovery' sandal may be perfectly fine.

Long shopping days, travelling or walking around town for hours?
That’s usually when a supportive trainer is the kinder option.

If you are looking for sandals to wear regularly, features we often suggest include:

• A contoured footbed
• Good cushioning
• Adjustable straps
• Multiple points of support rather than a loose slider style

Slip-on style loose sandals can also encourage people to grip with their toes to keep the shoe in place without even realising it, which may aggravate tired or sore feet over time.

Brands we often recommend to patients include recovery-style sandals such as Hoka or Oofos, and options like FitFlop, although there’s rarely one “best” brand for everybody. The right choice depends on your foot shape, loading pattern and any underlying injuries or irritation.

The goal isn’t perfection, it’s choosing the right tool for the job your feet are doing that day.

☀️Blisters & Summer Shoes ☀️

New summer shoes are one of the most common causes of blisters we see at this time of year, especially when warmer weather means our feet can become slightly more swollen.

A few simple things can make a big difference:

• Keep skin hydrated from the inside by drinking enough water
• Use a urea-based foot cream to help maintain soft, supple skin that is more resistant to friction
• Be mindful that footwear which fitted perfectly a few months ago may feel tighter in hot weather
• Consider moisture-wicking socks, particularly if you’re walking longer distances or exercising

One thing people often don’t realise is that friction usually comes from a combination of moisture, movement, and pressure. So even small footwear fit issues can become uncomfortable surprisingly quickly.

If you do develop a blister, we’d generally advise against removing the “roof” of the blister yourself, as this protective layer helps reduce the risk of infection.

Instead, keeping it clean and protected with a hydrocolloid blister plaster, such as Compeed, is often a much kinder approach while the skin settles and heals.

And while lightweight summer shoes are great for short periods, if you’re planning a long day on your feet, a supportive trainer is often the kinder option.

A little bit of prevention now is usually far easier than trying to manage painful blisters afterwards.

"Life changer." 👣

Those are powerful words, and we're incredibly grateful to Daniel for sharing his experience.

Painful callus can have a surprisingly significant impact on everyday life, affecting comfort, walking, activity levels, and even the shoes people feel able to wear.

After treatment, Daniel is now able to walk comfortably and wear shoes that had previously become too painful to use.

Thank you for taking the time to leave such a kind review, Daniel. We're delighted you've had such a positive outcome and can get back to doing the things you enjoy.

A lovely 5⭐️ review for Olive this week.

Pam recently visited us for new orthotics, and we’re so pleased to hear she’s finding them supportive, comfortable and a perfect fit.

What stood out most to us in this review was Pam’s comment about Olive’s care, patience and thorough explanations. Taking the time to listen, answer questions properly, and make sure patients feel confident in their treatment is such an important part of what we do.

Thank you, Pam, for taking the time to leave such kind feedback.

“I thought it was just ageing.”

We hear this surprisingly often.

Many people assume foot pain, discomfort, or reduced mobility are simply things they have to “put up with” as they get older, when in reality, understanding the cause can often make a huge difference.

Thank you, Declan, for such a thoughtful review. We’re so pleased you found the assessment, explanations and practical strategies helpful.

Our goal has always been not just to treat pain, but to help people understand their feet better and keep doing what they love.

Last month, in All About Horsham magazine, we explored how discomfort can quietly shrink the world around us.

This month’s article is about what happens when movement starts to expand again — and how the right support, understanding, and treatment can help people get back to the things they love most.

A short read for anyone who’s found themselves adapting more and more around pain. 👣
