We’re talking about metabolic health, which is how well your body creates and uses energy. It can play a big role in how you recover from repetitive strain, injuries, and other physical stress.

When blood sugar, inflammation, nervous system health, sleep, and nutrition are out of balance your body may repair tissues more slowly, leaving aches and injuries lingering longer.

Good recovery isn’t just about rest - your overall metabolic health can influence how well your body heals🧠

Some tips on how to improve your metabolic health:

- Daily movement
- Eat whole foods and protein
- Prioritise sleep
- Manage stress (breathing, mindfulness, time in nature…)
- Maintain healthy spinal movement and support nervous system function (Get checked and adjusted regularly!)

Master the fundamentals. Stay consistent. That’s the 🔑 to better health.

When we zoom in on the nervous system, this starts to make a lot of sense.

Your body isn’t just repairing tissue in the background - it’s constantly scanning for safety. The autonomic nervous system decides whether you’re in “threat mode” (fight/flight/freeze) or “repair mode” (rest, digest, recover).

In threat mode, the body prioritises survival over healing: muscles stay slightly braced, breathing becomes shallow, blood flow is redirected away from repair processes, and pain sensitivity can increase. This is useful short-term - it’s your body protecting you.

But when that protective state doesn’t switch off properly, even after the original injury has healed, the system can stay “on guard.” That’s often where lingering tightness, recurring strain, or stubborn pain patterns come in.

Here’s an example:

Someone recovers from a lower back strain, but months later still feels tightness when sitting or bending. Structurally, the tissue may be healed - but the nervous system has learned to anticipate danger in that area.

So it keeps the muscles slightly guarded, as if bracing for something that isn’t happening anymore.

The shift happens when the body starts to register safety again - through gradual movement, breath, graded exposure, regular adjustments, sleep, and reducing overall stress load.

As safety increases, the nervous system can downshift… and true recovery becomes more efficient.

Healing isn’t just tissue repair.

It’s permission from the nervous system to stop protecting.
