Ever looked like a vampire in a flash photo?

Red eye is just the flash bouncing off the back of your eye. Cats’ eyes glow green instead because they’ve got a reflective layer back there that we don’t have. Lucky them.

One that’s actually worth knowing: if you ever spot a white glow in someone’s eye in a photo instead of red, especially a little one’s, get it checked.

Solar Eclipse Glasses - are out of stock pretty much everywhere.

Sunglasses are not safe for this, no matter how dark, and take care with photos, because it is the glance up to line up the shot that harms.

"Looking directly at the sun during a solar eclipse can cause damage to the retina, potentially damaging the cells responsible for sharp central vision. Crucially, the retina has no pain receptors, so people will not feel the damage as it happens.

Symptoms may only become apparent several hours later and can include blurred vision, a central blind or dark spot, distorted vision, reduced colour perception and increased sensitivity to light. While some people recover over weeks or months, others can be left with permanent visual impairment.” (The Royal College of Ophthalmologists)

Could you read a number plate from 20 metres away? Be honest.
A new survey of 2,000 UK drivers found nearly half think they'd fail that exact test — and over half had no idea that reporting vision changes to the DVLA is a legal requirement. The Association of Optometrists says the whole system is "in desperate need of reform."
