12 of 13: Self Love as Sacred Practice
Within a hidden sanctuary, a small golden flame burned before a woman’s heart. She had been told that self love should feel radiant and effortless. Yet some days, she felt tired, uncertain and far from her own light.
A gentle dragon guarded the sanctuary while a fae tended the flowers around it. “The flame does not ask you to feel wonderful every day,” the dragon said. “It asks you to care for what is sacred.” The woman began to understand.
Self love was the meal she prepared when she was tired. It was the boundary she kept even when someone disapproved. It was the truth she admitted to herself. It was the apology she offered when repair was needed. It was the help she allowed herself to receive. Each act added light to the flame.
She realised that self love was not constant admiration. It was a relationship built through consistent care. Some days it looked like courage. Other days it looked like rest. Sometimes it meant moving forward. Sometimes it meant stopping before depletion. As she protected the flame, it grew brighter, but it did not illuminate her alone. Its warmth reached everyone she loved.
When she no longer required others to fill the places she had abandoned within herself, she could love them more freely. Self love is not something we achieve once and never need to revisit. It is a loving choice we make each day, especially on the days when loving ourselves feels most difficult.
Self love is not selfishness. It is sacred stewardship of the life entrusted to us.
