Peonies are in season and are one of my favourite cut flowers
There's is something so beautiful about their subtle aroma and their full bloom .
But did you know the petals can be used as part of your natural skincare.
3 Simple DIY Peony Skincare Recipes
1. Peony-Infused Face & Body Oil
This creates a soothing, hydrating serum that can be used on your face or as a massage oil.
How to make it: Pack a clean, sterilised glass jar with fresh or dried peony petals and cover them completely with a carrier oil like jojoba, sweet almond, or sunflower oil. Cover the jar and leave it on a sunny windowsill for 2 to 4 weeks, shaking it daily. Strain the mixture through cheesecloth into a clean bottle.
2. Peony Sugar Polish
An exfoliating scrub that buffs away dull skin while leaving a natural, glowing finish.
How to make it:
Blend a small handful of fresh peony petals with 100 g of white sugar in a food processor until the sugar is evenly colored. Mix in 2 to 3 tablespoons of light carrier oil (like jojoba or sweet almond oil) and store in the fridge.
3. Fresh Peony Face Toner
A delicate floral water to help hydrate and calm the skin.
How to make it: Submerge fresh, clean peony petals in a bowl of distilled water overnight. Strain the liquid, store it in the fridge, and use it within a few days as a refreshing facial mist.
Always try and use Pesticide-Free Flowers, so home grown is best . Always ensure your peony petals have not been treated with harsh chemicals or pesticides.Always do a Patch Test: Because botanical DIY products (like peony water) do not contain commercial preservatives, they spoil quickly and can cause reactions in sensitive skin. Always patch-test a small amount on your inner wrist before applying it to your face.Shelf Life: DIY skincare mixtures (especially those involving water) are highly perishable. Store them in the refrigerator and use them within 2 to 3 days, or consider making smaller, single-use batches.
