Growing Together

We are racing towards summer solstice and after periods of both sunshine and rain there is an overwhelming abundance of the lushest green as far as the eye can see!!

Our quarterly newsletter goes out ahead of the solstice and I am thinking about the sacredness of life. A sure way to reconnect with what really matters is to step outside, come rain or shine, and immerse yourself in natures healing balm.

Playtime Magic

There are some people and places that set you free, they bring out the spontaneous, the naughty, the cheeky, they remind you of your inner child and the need to play.

It’s a serious business being an adult. A never ending list of jobs to do, a home to look after, food to buy and cook, washing to keep up with, and bills to pay. There is also an expectation of “grown up” behaviour which comes from society and also from ourselves. A view of how adults should dress, speak, behave and interact. Somewhere in the midst all of this adulting, the child within craves a laugh out loud joke, a deep belly laugh and a bucketful of silliness.

I love to play and instantly notice people I can play with. Those who are comfortable with the banal, laughing hysterically at nothing, being naughty because they can and generally lightening up.

We need to play, we need to laugh and see the lighter side of life. Maybe if lunch break was renamed Playtime we would all feel a bit more inclined to shout “tig, you’re it!!”

“The truth is, it’s hard for us to care for the things we need: instead we tend to care about whether we have them or not.”
- Mike George

The value of “things” and our ability to take care of them without becoming overly attached is the theme of our Self Development Circle this month.

Values For Life

In a world of all you can eat buffet breakfasts and bottomless brunches, quantity and quality have become horribly confused. We have been led to believe that go large is somehow better, that a lake of coffee is superior to an espresso, or small cup, and that all inclusive hotels, which actively promote, by their very nature overeating and waste, are way to go!!

The reality check is that qualities of the spirit: love,
purity, truth and creativity are inherently yours and available 24/7 in infinite abundance.

Most of us live our lives, at least to some extent, by other peoples values; whether this be a boss, a spouse, a friend or a parent. The values we find within ourselves will always provide a more reliable compass on life’s roller coaster adventure ride.

Fresh Hair Vibes

A trip to the hairdressers is so much more than a haircut. Hairdressers know a lot about us, often much more than you may realise. Because they have permission to touch your head, it feels safe to share, in a way you probably wouldn’t ordinarily.

Thanks Pete for a much needed freshen up!!

Strawberry Rush 🍓

Life is full of ups and downs and things can just as easily go wrong, as go right. If you allow a disappointment to become an obstacle that ruins your day, it’s a slippery slope to living life half empty, rather than half full, or overflowing with abundance!!

One of my default strategies is to have at least half a dozen “strawberries” which I can bring to mind when things don’t go quite as expected, or hoped for. They act as an instant tonic, a pick me up that turns things around by flooding my body with endorphins, even on the darkest of days.

So, whether it’s actual Strawberries with their intoxicating aroma and mouth watering visual appeal, the smell of freshly baked bread, the luxury of clean sheets, or a snow white towel wrapping your body head to toe; gather yourself a handful of these favourite things and keep them safe. They have the amazing capacity to flip almost any situation by activating a rush of internal pharmacy chemicals.

Endorphins make you feel good,
and when you feel good,
the world
is a lot easier to navigate.

Soulful Sunday - Rainbow Bridge

The first thoughts you have in the morning shape your day. I remember a time when I regularly woke up dreading the day ahead. Overwhelm, panic and a mindset of getting through, seeing each part of the day as an obstacle to be overcome, until eventually I fell into bed exhausted, simply relieved I made it!!

A massive shift occurred when I first visited the Findhorn Foundation in the north of Scotland and started meditating. I began to notice my thoughts, feelings and emotions and my body’s responses to them. I started experimenting, deliberately calling in certain words and images and then tracking the response in my mind and body.

All words and images have power to calm, reset and energise or conversely irritate, agitate, create anxiety and increase stress.

Rainbow Bridge is the connection between the ego aspect of the personality and the soul. It’s a work in process integrating the two and is ignited by awakening awareness of ourselves as essence, soul or spirit.

Have a blessed day - Vicki ❤️❤️

Real Life

As I was leaving the restaurant last evening this sign over the doorway caught my eye and a thought popped into my mind; How many people live their lives looking forward to the next night out, weekend, holiday, break away?

I noticed in my mid twenties this was the norm for a lot of people I worked with and friends at the time. I even remember a colleague counting down the years he had left before taking early retirement at 55, he was in his 40’s!! I found it shocking to witness people wishing their lives away, unable to be present, unhappy with the now.

Learning to be in the moment is the essence of a happy, fulfilled and contented life. I still meet a lot of people who rush from one event, activity and weekend to the next. Always on the go, never still and definitely not here. If this resonates and you fail to do something about it, one day you will realise you missed your life!!

Just saying - Vicki ❤️❤️

Outside The Box

Watching the new musical threatre production Bank of Dave I am reminded of the importance of questioning, which doesn’t seem to be taught to children and young people in school anymore. Since the national curriculum was introduced in 1988, much of our education system has become one gigantic exam factory controlled to a large extent by Ofsted inspections and their subsequent league tables.

Education is not all about exams, jumping through hoops and gaining certificates. To do the very best you can and pass exams is of course important, however it’s also important to to push back, to challenge, to think critically and to question just about everything!!

We are all conditioned to think and behave in particular ways with certain people in different situations. Sadly we get so used to the veneer of social conformity we may lose sight of who we authentically are in the process.

Bank of Dave is the story of one man’s vision to challenge the status quo, to take on the big bankers, on capitalism, on social control and invest instead in local people, local community and local resources.

It’s a true story and a timely reminder of just how powerful we are as individuals and collectively and the incredible things we can do when we have an idea, run with it and never give up!!

Catch Bank of Dave at CURVE theatre, Leicester until the end of the week and maybe in London Town if they get a transfer!!

Solitude

Sitting quietly beside the pond in my friends garden I was suddenly acutely aware of my need for solitude.

This morning I found this beautiful quote by John O’Donohue from his book Anam Cara.
May it nourish your soul as it does mine!!

All my love - Vicki ❤️❤️

“Solitude is one of the most precious things in the human spirit. It is different from loneliness. When you are lonely, you become acutely conscious of your own separation. Solitude can be a homecoming to your own deepest belonging. One of the lovely things about us as individuals is the incommensurable in us. In each person, there is a point of absolute nonconnection with everything else and with everyone. This is fascinating and frightening. It means that we cannot continue to seek outside ourselves for things we need from within. The blessings for which we hunger are not to be found in other places or people. These gifts can only be given to you by yourself. They are at home at the hearth of your soul.
