Here are some statistics about ADHD in the UK – numbers that highlight not only how common ADHD is, but also how many people may be going without the help they need.
• Around 3–4% of the UK population are living with ADHD.
• Many remain undiagnosed due to lack of awareness or long NHS waiting lists.
• Men are diagnosed more often than women, even though prevalence is thought to be equal.
• ADHD and Autism often overlap, making assessment and support more complex.
• Since Covid-19, prescriptions for ADHD medication have risen sharply.
• Research shows clear links between trauma and ADHD symptoms.

At Shore Psychology, we’re here to help. Our clinicians provide:
✅ Full neurodiversity assessments with minimal waiting times
✅ Preliminary ADHD screeners (£240) to guide next steps
✅ The only joint ADHD/Autism (AuDHD) assessment available in Edinburgh
✅ Access to support and therapies that improve executive functioning

We believe in accessible, trauma-informed, neuro-affirming care.

Have you noticed that everyday things are taking a bit more effort?

Replying to messages.
Making decisions.
Concentrating.
Keeping on top of the washing.
Being patient.
Getting out of the door.

It’s easy to tell ourselves we’re just busy, tired, hormonal or having an off week.

And sometimes that’s exactly what it is.

But if lots of little things start feeling harder than usual—or that feeling doesn’t seem to lift—it might be your mind and body asking you to pay attention.

Rather than pushing through, try getting curious.

Ask yourself:

• What’s changed recently?
• Am I sleeping differently?
• Am I feeling more reactive than usual?
• Am I avoiding things I’d normally manage?
• Am I withdrawing from people or feeling overwhelmed more easily?
• How much energy am I spending just trying to appear “fine”?

You don’t need to solve everything today.

Sometimes the most helpful thing you can do is notice what’s happening and make one small thing easier for yourself.

Our free Traffic Light Tool can help you recognise your own Green, Amber and Red signs, so you can spot when you’re moving towards overload and think about the support that helps at each stage.

We often think we need to “keep going” until we hit a wall.

But our minds and bodies usually give us plenty of clues before we reach that point.

At Shore, we use a simple traffic light approach to help people notice how they’re really doing.

💚 Green – You’re coping reasonably well.

🧡 Amber – Things are starting to feel harder. Your stress levels are building and you might notice small changes in how you’re thinking, feeling or responding.

❤️ Red – Everything feels more difficult to manage and you may need some extra support.

The important thing is that amber looks different for everyone.

For you, it might be sleeping poorly, feeling more irritable, avoiding tasks, withdrawing from people, finding it harder to concentrate or feeling more emotional than usual.

These aren’t signs you’ve failed.

They’re your nervous system letting you know it might be time to slow down, check in with yourself or ask for support.

The earlier we notice our amber, the easier it is to make small changes before things feel overwhelming.

We’ve created a free Traffic Light Tool to help you identify your own Green, Amber and Red signs, along with ideas for the support that works best for you at each stage.

The summer holidays often bring a different pace.

Without the school run, homework and packed routines, many parents find they finally have the space to reflect on the year that’s just been.

Perhaps you’ve been wondering…

💭 Why does school seem to take so much out of them?
💭 Why do friendships feel so difficult?
💭 Why do emotions seem so big?
💭 Why do they struggle to focus, manage change or cope with busy environments?

These questions don’t automatically mean ADHD or autism.

But if those concerns have been there for a while, summer can be a good time to begin exploring what’s going on before the new school year starts.

At Shore, our child and young person ADHD and autism assessments can begin during the holidays. If we need information from school, we can gather that once term starts again, so there’s no need to wait until September to take the first step.

We currently have appointments available for child and young person ADHD and autism assessments.

If you’d like to find out more, we’d be happy to talk you through the process.

Summer can be a good time to pause and reflect on the school year just past.
If there have been ongoing concerns about attention, friendships, emotion regulation, sensory needs or overwhelm, it may be worth looking into what is going on before the next school year begins.
For some children, that might mean considering ADHD, autism or both.
At Shore Psychology, child and young person ADHD and autism assessments can start during the summer holidays. If we need information from school, we can gather that once term starts again.
We currently have availability for child and young person ADHD and autism assessments.

Could you help shape the next stage of Shore Psychology CIC?
We’re recruiting a Chair of the Board to support Shore as we move from early growth towards sustainable, values-led impact.
Shore is a social enterprise based in Leith, providing evidence-based psychological care through therapy, neurodiversity assessments, training and consultancy.
Through our pay-it-forward model, income from our clinical services helps us widen access to psychological support through charity partnerships, pro bono work and community activity.
We’re looking for someone with inclusive leadership, strong governance judgement and a commitment to social purpose.
This is an opportunity to help shape a distinctive model of psychological care and make a real impact on mental health support in Scotland.
We will also be recruiting additional Board members soon. If you are interested in supporting Shore’s governance but the Chair role is not the right fit, please feel free to get in touch to express interest.
To find out more or request the Chair Recruitment Pack, please contact Sophie Revesz at [email protected]
Deadline for expressions of interest: 26 June 2026
Please share with anyone who may be interested.

When your work involves supporting others through trauma, crisis, stress or constant pressure, your own wellbeing can quietly slip down the priority list.

That’s why we created our Resilience in Trauma-Exposed Roles workshop.

Our first session sold out, and due to demand, we’re running it again on Thursday 4 June.

This practical, reflective workshop is for people working in charities, social enterprises, frontline services and caring professions who want to better understand the impact of trauma exposure and build more sustainable ways of working.

This is not about “pushing through.”

It’s about understanding what happens to humans working in emotionally demanding environments — and learning how to protect wellbeing without losing compassion.

Today was a special day at Shore Psychology CIC as we got to host the fabulous Turn Your Life Around staff and mentors for a trauma informed lens workshop. For those that don’t know, the Turn Your Life Around (TYLA) project is led by Edinburgh City Council and Police Scotland) and is a mental health and youth wellbeing initiative. It works with local peer mentors with lived experience of adversity and trauma to visit schools and share their personal stories of resilience. We spent the morning learning about post traumatic growth, and how it helps us do the work we do. But how the life experiences we have, and the work we do, can take its toll and how to recognise the signs of when we are struggling and how to look after ourselves. In the afternoon we applied a trauma informed lens to the TYLA process. What an amazing trauma informed bunch the council team are, but it was great to find some tweaks that can be made to improve the system further. AND every time I meet the peer mentors they blow my mind, and remind me how resilient humans can be. Putting lived experience at the heart of service redesign is essential to making services more accessible and less retraumatising for people who have experienced trauma. Contact us if you feel a lens workshop would support your organisation or service delivery to become more trauma responsive!

Many organisations want to be inclusive, but everyday working habits can still make work harder than it needs to be.

Often, what helps is quite practical.

* Clearer communication.
* Written follow-up after meetings.
* Appropriate work environments.
* More explicit expectations.
* Fewer unwritten rules.

These are not special arrangements. They are sensible ways of organising work.

In our latest article, we look at five common mistakes organisations make around neurodiversity in the workplace, and the practical changes that can help.
