Waiting until January to start training for your spring marathon? That’s the mistake.

Most people pick their training back up in January. The distance goes up too fast, the body hasn’t been built for it, and that’s when we see the stress fractures, the Achilles pain and the shin pain.

The runners who start now get the best results. Not hard training. A steady build and some strength work, so January isn’t a shock.

Training for London or the Liverpool Half? Start now.

A bone spur on an X-ray can look alarming—but it may have nothing to do with your pain. What matters is where it is and whether it affects nearby joints, tissues or nerves. In many cases, you don’t have to stop moving: adapting activity and choosing gentler options may help you stay active without aggravating symptoms. So when should a bone spur change what you do?

Lacking hip rotation? Try these 4.

Hip feels blocked when you squat, sit cross-legged or run? It’s often lacking internal rotation, and the knee or back ends up taking the strain.

1. 90/90 banded hip internal rotation
2. 4-point kneeling hip internal rotation
3. Seated banded hip internal rotation
4. Foam roller hip internal rotation

Save this for your next session.

Hands-on therapy may help ease back pain or stiffness, but it isn’t a stand-alone fix. A physiotherapist first assesses how you move, then may use guided joint movements or soft-tissue techniques alongside exercise and practical advice—because what you do between sessions matters, too. The right approach depends on your symptoms and daily activities, so what might your assessment reveal?

This is the ForceFrame. It’s part of every assessment we do.

You push against it and it measures the force each side produces, left against right. No guessing, no ‘how does it feel’. A number.

For runners that matters, because every stride is one leg taking your whole body weight. If one side is weaker, that’s usually where the problem starts.

Over the next few weeks we’ll show you how we use it and why it changes your rehab.

Quick one for our patients 👋

Your exercises are on your phone, so we know you haven’t lost the sheet 😂

Honestly though, the stuff you do at home is what makes the biggest difference. We can do loads in a session, but it’s the bits you do in between that get you back running, lifting, or just sitting at your desk without your back moaning at you.

Doesn’t need to be a big thing. 10 minutes tonight is plenty.

See you on Norfolk Street soon 🤍

If you've been struggling to reach overhead or tossing and turning trying to find a comfortable sleeping position, you might be surprised to learn that your shoulder isn't always the real culprit. Often, that nagging ache or sudden pinch is actually referred pain travelling down from your neck, meaning treating just the sore spot rarely solves the problem. Understanding where the irritation truly begins changes everything about your recovery, and the root cause might be completely different from what you'd expect.

Getting out of pain and getting back to what you do are two different things.

One or two sessions gets most people out of pain. That isn’t the same as being ready to get back on the bike, under the bar or through a 10k. The strength that stops a problem coming back takes weeks to build. Tendons, for example, usually need around 12 weeks of the right loading (source in the comments).

So on day one we explain the plan. Phase 1 settles the pain. Phase 2 builds the strength, with sessions spread out while you do the work at home. It’s usually around four sessions in each phase, and we test you at the start, middle and end so you can see the progress.

We know a plan like this can sound like a sales pitch. You can pay £70 a session as you go. If you book the full block of eight up front, it’s £56 a session, because people who commit to the full plan are more likely to finish it.
