We are so proud to be working with Dr Alison Flynn - Tongue Tie specialist with over 44 years NHS experience and 16 years specialising in tongue tie assessment and procedure to correct restrictions. Add to that the expertise of Carol Brown (IBCLC) with over 35 years working in maternity care and 13 years specialising in baby and infant feeding. These lovely women make us feel so grateful they chose to work with us. The compassion, expertise, and experienced advice and support offered to our families gives us the reassurance we would expect for our own family. Congratulations Frances & James with baby Lorenzo 🫶🏽 🙌🏽: I think I was one of the first due in the group, so I wanted to share my positive birth story!

I had an induction booked for this Friday, but yesterday at 6am I started having contractions. They were quite far apart and manageable at first, but I couldn’t keep anything down, so I popped into triage briefly for an anti-sickness injection. After that I went back home and continued labouring there for a while, letting my body do its thing until the contractions became stronger.

When I arrived at the MLU I was examined and was 2cm dilated. At the time that felt a little discouraging as things already felt quite intense, and they suggested going home for a bit longer. I decided to stay as I felt like my body was really working and I wanted to keep moving forward.

Not long after, everything changed! After one particularly strong contraction the midwife checked me again and I had gone from 2cm to 6cm in about 1.5 hours. It was amazing to see how quickly my body was progressing.

I was then able to move into a proper labour room where I could use the pool and gas & air, and I also had another anti-sickness injection. From there labour continued to move along beautifully and I went from 6cm to fully dilated in around 3 hours. The warm water and the calm environment made such a difference and helped me stay focused and relaxed.

Soon after I started getting the urge to push. I eventually got out of the pool as I was feeling quite warm and moved onto the bed to push.

The pushing stage was powerful and focused, and after about an hour of pushing, our baby boy slid out in one final push. The moment he was born was the most incredible feeling and such a huge rush of relief and joy.

I had been really nervous about having an induction, so I felt so grateful that my body went into labour on its own and that everything progressed so naturally. It ended up being such a positive, empowering experience, and we were so happy to finally meet our beautiful boy 💙

Just wanted to share to remind anyone waiting that our bodies can be amazing and things can move quickly once labour really gets going 🤗

Decision making is difficult at the best of times… but what about when the stakes feel high!

In situations where there is potential for risk and it feels like a major loss or gain, decision making feels so overwhelming. It’s especially difficult when no one can give you the answers… just options… and every option comes with risks and benefits 🫤. Let’s add to that the pressure of ‘doing well’ ‘achieving an ideal birth’ and avoiding a feeling of failure or defeat. The pressure can diminish the feelings of excitement and joy for the special moment you will meet your baby!

You can only do what you can do!!! Gather information

Feel confident about one thing! There is no ‘bad decision’ just options. You’ve already done amazing 🤩
