Navigating a prostate cancer diagnosis brings a lot of questions—medical and practical alike. If you have private health insurance, does it cover your treatment, and what options are actually included? 🩺💭

Our website breaks down everything you need to know about private prostate cancer care in the UK:

* What’s Typically Covered: Most major UK insurers (like BUPA, AXA Health, Vitality, Aviva, and Cigna) cover consultations, diagnostic tests, surgery, conventional radiotherapy, and follow-up care under full cancer plans.
* Advanced Treatments & Proton Beam Therapy: Specialty therapies like proton beam therapy often require separate pre-authorisation and clinical justification. The good news? Leading insurers are expanding access—such as BUPA, which now covers the 5-fraction proton beam therapy pathway at Proton International London for eligible patients.
* Pre-Existing Conditions: Understand how moratorium vs. fully underwritten policies treat prior symptoms, elevated PSA tests, or previous medical history.
* Alternative Options: What to do if your insurer doesn’t cover everything, from self-funding and payment plans to exploring NHS pathways.

Visit our website to understand the pre-authorisation process and how our team at Proton International London can support you every step of the way.

June is International Cancer Survivors Month, a time to look past the clinical data and share the real, human moments behind the treatment. Today, we are sharing the incredible journey of Hilary, a retired pharmacist from High Wycombe.

Throughout her career as a pharmacist, Hilary saw too many people leave things until it was too late. Because of this, she and her husband took a proactive approach to their health, undergoing private scans every five years. In late 2023, that decision changed her life. A routine MRI revealed a brain tumour located deep in the centre of her brain. “I had no symptoms... I felt completely fine,” Hilary recalls.

Because of its sensitive location, surgery wasn’t an option. Hilary was referred to Dr. Michael Kosmin at Proton International London for Proton Beam Therapy—an advanced treatment that uses protons instead of X-rays to target tumours with exceptional precision, sparing healthy surrounding tissue.

We know that navigating an unexpected diagnosis brings immediate anxiety, especially when it comes to dealing with the background logistics and health insurance. To help close that anxiety gap, our team provides full administrative support. As Hilary notes: “The best part was that I didn’t have to chase my insurer. Proton International London spoke to Bupa directly. That made a huge difference.”

Today, Hilary is back to enjoying her retirement, from Mediterranean cruises to touring India’s Golden Triangle.

Advanced cancer treatment, explained simply.

Ever wonder what makes Proton Beam Therapy (PBT) so precise? It comes down to a physics phenomenon called the Bragg Peak. 🎯

Unlike standard radiation, which can damage healthy tissue on its way into and out of the body, proton beams are programmed to deposit their highest dose of radiation exactly at the tumour site—and then stop completely.

🛑 What does zero “exit dose” mean for certain cancers?

* Targeted Precision: The beam hits the tumour with maximum energy.
* Organ Sparing: Critical nearby organs are protected from unnecessary radiation.
* Better Recovery: Fewer side effects and an improved quality of life during treatment.

At Proton International London, our world-class experts use this exact precision to deliver targeted, compassionate care tailored to you.

Why spend 7 weeks in treatment when you could spend 2? 🏥

Our 5-fraction pathway for prostate cancer reduces travel and clinic time from 35 days to just 10. Logistical freedom, clinically delivered.

Who is 5-fraction proton beam therapy for?

The 5-fraction pathway is typically considered for men with early-stage prostate cancer that has not spread outside the prostate or around the body.

Our specialist proton beam therapy team assesses suitability on a case-by-case basis, considering:

* Prostate tumour specific features including size and grade
* Symptoms caused by the tumour (if any)
* Medical imaging such as MRI, PET and CT scans
* The patient’s age and overall health

After careful review, a specialist oncologist, backed by a multidisciplinary team of radiologists and clinicians, recommends the most appropriate course of treatment.

At 74, retired architect Peter Selencky was living an active life in the Peak District when a proactive PSA test led to a shocking prostate cancer diagnosis.

Though the cancer was localised, Peter was uneasy with the “one-size-fits-all” approach of traditional radiotherapy, which involved treating a wide area around the prostate.

Peter’s primary concern was the potential for life-altering side effects. This led him to discover Proton Beam Therapy (PBT). He was drawn to the technology’s ability to deliver radiation with sub-millimeter precision, stopping at the tumour site and sparing the nearby bladder and bowel.

Choosing to travel to London for private treatment at Proton International London, Peter received a bespoke plan from Consultant Oncologist Dr. Jason Lester. His treatment included a re**al spacer for added protection and a daily schedule that felt “calm and organised” rather than clinical.

Two years later, Peter is thriving with reassuring PSA results. His message to other men is simple: “Don’t assume the first option you’re offered is the only one. Take time to understand what’s available.”

If you are navigating a prostate cancer diagnosis, don’t settle for uncertainty. At Proton International London, we provide world-leading, consultant-led Proton Beam Therapy designed to target cancer while preserving your quality of life.

Often, the earliest warning signs of head and neck cancer are mistaken for a common cold or minor infection. However, when these symptoms persist, they require specialist attention.

At Proton International London, we believe that empowering patients with knowledge is the first step toward a successful recovery.

4. Difficulty swallowing or a feeling that something is “stuck.”
5. Red or white patches in the mouth or on the tongue.

Knowing what to look for can make all the difference in accessing advanced care that prioritises your future quality of life. Our expert team is here to provide clarity, from initial diagnosis through to the most advanced treatment pathways available in the UK.
