TROCA 56 – Patient-specific trochlear resurfacing without screws

The same patient-specific TROCA concept can also be applied with a different method of fixation.

TROCA 56 is the screw-free version of the LimesVet TROCA system. Like TROCA 50, it is individually designed from the patient's CT data to match the distal femoral anatomy and provide an appropriately shaped trochlear surface for patellar tracking.

The key difference lies in how the implant is fixed to the bone.

Instead of cortical screws, TROCA 56 incorporates integrated lattice pins. Patient-specific drilling guides and cannulated drill bits are used to prepare the corresponding pin channels with controlled positioning. The implant is then seated onto the trochlea, where the lattice pins provide initial press-fit fixation and are designed to support subsequent bone ingrowth.

As with TROCA 50, reconstruction of the trochlear surface is achieved without a trochlear osteotomy.

However, treating patellar luxation requires more than addressing the trochlea alone. TROCA is therefore used as part of a whole-limb approach: the complete extensor mechanism and limb alignment are evaluated, and additional corrective procedures are incorporated into the surgical plan whenever indicated.

Patient-specific planning makes it possible to integrate these procedures into a single strategy—from trochlear resurfacing to tibial tuberosity transposition or correction of femoral or tibial deformities when required.

TROCA 50 – Patient-specific trochlear resurfacing with screw fixation

Patellar luxation is rarely just a problem of the trochlear groove. Successful treatment requires evaluation of the entire limb and extensor mechanism to identify all anatomical factors contributing to abnormal patellar tracking.

The TROCA system was developed by LimesVet as a patient-specific solution for the trochlear component of patellar luxation surgery. Based on the patient's CT data, the implant is individually designed to match the distal femoral anatomy and create an appropriate trochlear shape for stable patellar tracking.

TROCA enables patient-specific trochlear resurfacing without the need for a trochlear osteotomy.

With TROCA 50, patient-specific surgical guides support accurate implant positioning and preparation of the fixation points. The titanium implant is then positioned on the trochlea and fixed to the distal femur with standard cortical screws, providing stable mechanical fixation.

Importantly, TROCA addresses the trochlear aspect of patellar luxation—it does not replace the other corrective procedures that may be required. Following a whole-limb approach, femoral and tibial alignment, tibial tuberosity position, the extensor mechanism and soft-tissue balance should all be evaluated, with procedures such as TTT or corrective osteotomy performed when indicated.

LimesVet Product Focus | Three solutions. Three distinct orthopaedic challenges.

LimesVet’s patient specific solutions are designed around the individual anatomical and surgical requirements of each case. Three technologies, three distinct indications:

TROCA 56
TROCA 56 provides a patient specific solution for severe or complex patellar luxation cases where anatomical reconstruction of the femoral trochlea is required. The custom designed titanium implant helps restore more stable patellar tracking and supports the re establishment of appropriate stifle biomechanics without trochlear osteotomy.

TIBIOSEC
A CT-based, patient-specific 3D guide system for corrective tibial osteotomy. It helps define the precise osteotomy location and orientation and supports repositioning the bone segments into the planned corrected alignment.

PERSIC
PERSIC is designed for spinal procedures where precise placement of screws and drill trajectories is critical. The CT based, patient specific drill guide defines the entry point, trajectory and drilling depth in advance, supporting more accurate and controlled implant placement, particularly in anatomically constrained safety zones.

Different anatomy. Different challenge. A patient specific solution.

At LimesVet, technology is not merely an add-on — it is an integral part of surgical thinking.
Through digital anatomical modeling and patient-specific implant design.
Advanced visualization and 3D-based planning enable:
• more precise preoperative assessment
• a clearer understanding of anatomical structures
• improved surgical planning and predictability
• greater intraoperative confidence
Precision is particularly critical in neurology and neurosurgery, where the proximity of delicate anatomical structures makes accurate planning and millimeter-level accuracy essential. In this field, 3D-based visualization can also support a more detailed understanding of complex anatomy and facilitate meticulous surgical planning.
Innovation is not about complexity.
It is about consistently applying controlled precision in clinical practice.

The body’s internal structure is a work of art in itself.

This distinctive pair of earrings features a cross-section of a dog’s kidney, with the renal cortex, medullary pyramids, and pelvic region carefully represented within its characteristic silhouette. A piece that truly rewards a closer look.

The earrings are 3D metal printed in cobalt-chromium alloy a biocompatible, exceptionally durable, and corrosion-resistant material also used in medical and dental implants. The surface requires no plating and will not tarnish over time.

Created for veterinarians, veterinary students, nephrologists, biology enthusiasts, and anyone fascinated by the body’s internal architecture.

Each pair is made to order, with subtle surface variations that make every piece genuinely unique.

The advancement of veterinary orthopedics is unstoppable. However, the adoption of new techniques depends not only on innovation itself, but also on education and hands-on experience.
This is exactly what we've experienced at the international exhibitions we've attended in recent months—from Warsaw to London. While interest in patient-specific 3D technology continues to grow, we've learned that the most effective way to build confidence is by allowing veterinarians to see, hold, and examine our solutions in person.
That's why we see our role at these events as much more than exhibiting products. Every conversation and every demonstration helps bridge the gap between innovation and everyday clinical practice. Our ambition is to make patient-specific 3D solutions a natural part of modern veterinary surgery while supporting the profession in establishing the next generation of clinical standards. This year, we continue our journey at international exhibitions, sharing innovation with the veterinary community.
