New NHS England data confirms what many in general practice are already feeling: face to face GP appointments have fallen to 60.2%, the lowest proportion on record.
Since October 2025, practices have been required to keep online consultation tools open throughout core hours. The result is a fast-moving shift in how patients contact their GP, and in the skills practices need from clinicians and wider primary care staff who can move confidently between phone, video and in-person care.
