We want everyone in our wonderfully diverse community to be able to approach death in the way that suits their values, beliefs and lifestyle.

We're here for the people of Greenwich and Bexley. Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice provides free specialist palliative care and support services for people with terminal illnesses, as well as providing support for their families, friends and professional carers. Our services include a 19 bedded Hospice inpatient facility, Hospice at home care, hospital support, a lymphoedema service, education, complementary therapy and creative arts helping people at the end of life to enjoy a better quality of life.

For Hospice Care Week, our team picked up the phones for our very own Thankathon, calling over 400 of our amazing supporters to show our appreciation.

Every donation, every fundraiser and every act of kindness helps us provide compassionate care to people across Greenwich and Bexley when they need it most.

You never forget the people who were there when someone you love needed them most. 🧡

When Martin’s wife, Fenella, was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer, Community Hospice was there for them both.

Martin had been doing everything he could to care for Fenella. Having the hospice alongside them meant he no longer had to carry everything on his own.

"You just felt that people really cared. So that made those ten and a half weeks a lot easier. And there was less pain for Fenella."

For Martin, that care has stayed with him.

He knows what it means to have the hospice there when your family needs it. And he wants other local families to have that same support.

🧡 Well done, Maisie! 🧡

After losing her nanny, Maisie wanted to do something special to support Community Hospice. She got busy making homemade bracelets and chocolate lollies, selling them to friends and family and raising an incredible £100.

We're so grateful for Maisie's kindness, creativity and hard work.

Care should never be left to chance.

When Nancy’s mum, Jeannie, came to Community Hospice in the final days of her life, her family discovered that hospice care was about so much more than they had imagined.

It was about seeing Jeannie as a person. Caring for her family. And making space for the little things that mattered, right through to the end.

“It felt like it wasn’t just mum that was involved. It felt like everybody was involved.”

This Hospice Care Week, we’re sharing Nancy’s story to show why compassionate, person-centred care matters so much and why everyone should have access to it when they need it most.

Sometimes, there really is no place you’d rather be than home. 🧡

For Jason, that mattered more than ever as he neared the end of his life.

His wish was simple. He wanted to be at home, surrounded by familiar things and the people he loved.

With support from Community Hospice, Jason and his partner Zuzana were able to make that happen.

Our carers visited three times a day, providing the care Jason needed while helping him remain himself. From choosing his clothes to putting on his guitar socks, it was the small things that helped protect his dignity and individuality.

And we were there for Zuzana too.

Jason died at home, where he wanted to be.

✨ Lighting up London together

On Saturday evening, hospice supporters came together for the very first Light the Night – a 10km walk through the heart of London.

It was a chance to walk side by side, remember people who have died, share memories and support the hospices that have been there for people and families when they’ve needed them.

Light the Night brought together St Christopher's Hospice Shooting Star Children’s Hospices Princess Alice Hospice St Raphael's Hospice and North London Hospice

We loved seeing 25 people walking in support of Community Hospice among the wider group.

And there were some familiar faces too. Some of our China trekkers joined us for a 10km challenge before heading to China later this month to walk the Great Wall of China, once again raising money for Community Hospice.

Saturday was a test event ahead of the official launch of Light the Night in 2027, so everyone who took part also helped us learn, test and shape what this event could become.

Thank you to everyone who walked, remembered, talked and connected with each other. And thank you to our fellow London hospices for coming together to make it possible. 🧡✨

Hospice care shouldn’t be something we leave to chance. 🧡

This Hospice Care Week, we’re shining a light on why it matters that compassionate, expert hospice care is there when people need it most.

None of us knows when we, or someone we love, might need hospice care. But when that moment comes, people and families across Greenwich and Bexley deserve to know that support is there.

In this video, our Director of Nursing and Quality, Debbie, shares why we can’t afford to leave hospice care to chance.

Because hospice care matters. And making sure it’s there when it’s needed matters too.
