We recently had the privilege of arranging this beautiful horse drawn carriage as part of a family’s final farewell to their loved one.

How do you register a death?

When someone passes away, knowing what to do next can feel overwhelming. We are here to offer clear, compassionate guidance throughout the process.

1️⃣ Wait for confirmation

The Medical Examiner’s Office will review the cause of death and let you know when you can contact the Register Office.

2️⃣ Book an appointment

The death should normally be registered with the Register Office in the area where the person passed away.

3️⃣ Register within five days

Once you have received confirmation from the Medical Examiner’s Office, the death should usually be registered within five days, including weekends and bank holidays.

4️⃣ Provide the required information

You will normally be asked for details including the person’s full name, date and place of birth, address, occupation, marital status and the date and place of death.

5️⃣ Receive the necessary certificates

Once the death has been registered, you can obtain certified copies of the death certificate. The certificate allowing the burial or cremation to proceed, often known as the green form, will also be issued or sent to the funeral director.
