Phase 1 of the Gold Care Africa pilot, led by Prof Keri Thomas, is showing how the principles of the Gold Standards Framework can be adapted to support frontline healthcare teams in African settings.

Supported by the Andrew Rodger Trust, and developed in collaboration with the African Palliative Care Association, Gold Care Africa builds on more than 25 years of GSF experience – adapting the approach to local cultures, needs and healthcare systems.

From earlier identification and advance care planning to more proactive, person-centred care, the aim is simple: help more people live well until they die.

Our 2026 GSF Awards and Conference is just around the corner!

On Tuesday 22 September, we’ll be bringing together our GSF community in Birmingham for a special day of learning, sharing, connection and celebration.

This year’s theme is Shaping the Future of Care - Learning, Leading & Innovating in Care.

We have a fantastic programme planned, with speakers exploring some of the issues that matter to our community, including:

➡️ Prof Laura Shallcross, Professor of Public Health at University College London - looking at the importance of data collection and benchmarking in social care
➡️ Dr Zena Aldridge, NIHR Nursing and Midwifery - recognising the invaluable role of the social care workforce in research
➡️ Prof Celia Kitzinger - Co-Director of the Open Justice Court of Protection Project
➡️ James Norris, Founder of The Digital Legacy Association exploring the future of care provision through the lens of an ‘end of life technologist’
➡️ Prof Keri Thomas, Founder & Chair of GSF

And then, of course, it’s time to celebrate our GSF Community.

We’ll be recognising the achievements of GSF-accredited and reaccredited organisations across care homes, domiciliary care, primary care, hospitals, hospices and retirement villages, including our GSF Quality Hallmark Awards, Platinum achievements and GSF ‘Of the Year’ Awards.

It’s a chance to celebrate the progress being made across our community, share good practice, learn from one another and recognise the commitment of the teams working every day to improve care for people, families and communities.

We’re really looking forward to bringing our GSF community together for what promises to be a very special day.

Their leadership has encouraged staff to think differently about how we provide care, how we communicate with residents and families, how we recognise changing needs and, most importantly, how we ensure that the resident remains at the very heart of every decision we make. ❤️

They have put countless hours, conversations, ideas and plans into making this happen — working alongside the wider team to ensure that the principles of GSF are reflected throughout the home.
