I used to think getting lean meant being really “good” for a few weeks. Eat less. Train harder. Avoid anything that didn’t fit the plan.
The problem was I could never live that way long enough for the results to last & everything felt ‘extreme!
What changed was building habits I could keep doing whether I was actively losing fat or not.
Here’s what I’d focus on:
→ Build every meal around protein. Aim for roughly 30-40g at most meals so hitting your daily goal doesn’t become a scramble at dinner.
→ Strength train 3xweek.
→ Know your calories and macros. You don’t have to track forever, but understanding portions and what your body actually needs is a game changer.
→ Walk every day. Steps are one of the simplest ways I keep my daily movement consistent without adding endless cardio.
→ Stop treating weekends differently. I still prioritise protein, movement, water, and hunger cues while making room for meals out and family plans.
→ Learn how to maintain. Fat loss shouldn’t be your permanent setting. Being able to increase calories and maintain your results is part of the process.
→ Stop reacting to one bad day. One meal, missed workout, or higher weigh-in doesn’t require starting over. Get back to your normal habits at the next opportunity.
That last one changed everything for me.
The goal isn’t to become really good at losing weight. It’s to build a way of eating, training, and living that makes it easier to keep the results once you get there.
Fat loss is a phase. Your habits are what come with you afterward.
