Four years ago, Nicky woke with a terrible headache and sickness. Within hours, she had lost her sight.

“It was terrifying,” she recalls. “I couldn’t see anything. I was in total shock.”

Nicky feared losing everything – her home, her job, and watching her grandchildren grow up.

With support from Kent Association for the Blind, she found hope. “Just hearing someone say, ‘We’re here for you, and this is how we can help you’, made all the difference.”

From practical rehabilitation and counselling to learning new skills and rebuilding her confidence, Nicky discovered that sight loss didn't have to mean losing her independence.

Today, she's volunteering as an art therapist and facing the future with determination.

Every day, more people across Kent begin their own journey with a sight condition. Your donation to our Summer Appeal can help someone like Nicky find hope, confidence and the support they need.

We'll be attending the Veterans Coffee and Chat morning on Friday 17th July at 10am. This event is calling all veterans to join them at Invicta Lodge, Churchill Living, Nash Road, Broadstairs CT9 4LD for a cuppa, good company and a chance to reconnect with those who understand the journey of service.

This event hopes to continue with further mid monthly meet ups. We'll be at their first event, aboard Iris - our mobile sight centre - providing information to anyone who needs assistance with their vision.

Brought to you by the team working towards establishing the Paul Jacobs Veterans Trust and the East Kent Mind Veterans Project.

Good company. Real conversations. Lasting Connections.
