Whether you're carving pumpkins, choosing a costume, or heading out trick or treating, there are so many ways to support speech and language development through everyday interactions.

DLD doesn't disappear when childhood ends.
DLD is lifelong, yet many adults go unrecognised and misunderstood.

Many adults live with DLD, navigating work, relationships, education, and everyday life while experiencing differences in how they understand and use language.

Greater awareness leads to better understanding, more inclusive workplaces, and stronger support across all stages of life.

💜 Adults with DLD deserve to be heard, understood, and supported. 💛

We can't always see when processing or using language is difficult.🤔

Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) is a lifelong difficulty with understanding and/or using language. People with DLD often know what they want to say but struggle to express their thoughts or understand what others are saying.

Because these challenges aren't always obvious, DLD can often go unnoticed for years.

What looks like inattention, forgetfulness or a lack of effort may actually be a child working hard to make sense of what's being said. 💛

Two children in every classroom. 🗣🗣

Yet most people have never heard of Developmental Language Disorder aka DLD.

DLD affects understanding and using language. It can impact learning, friendships and wellbeing. DLD is lifelong, but with the right support, children and young people can thrive. ✨

This Friday is DLD awareness day. Head to to learn more about their important work and how you can join the campaign.

Over the next few days we'll be sharing more about DLD and how we can work together to raise awareness and support people around us with DLD.

Emma recently delivered a fun day of training to one of our wonderful multi-academy trusts. Together, they explored practical, relationship-based approaches that support children's communication development through responsive interactions and play.

Can you believe it's been a whole year already? 🎉

This week we're celebrating Emily and Leah's first year at Thrive!

Over the last 12 months they've supported so many children and families, embraced new challenges, shared plenty of laughs, and become an invaluable part of our team.

We're so lucky to have you both. Thank you for everything you do, and congratulations on your first Thrive workiversary! 🥳

Who knew a car wash could do so much? 🚗💦

Beth has had a great time in sessions this week using a 'car wash' activity to support different communication goals.

This playful activity can be adapted to support:
🗣️ Language modelling for analytical and Gestalt Language Processors
🔑 Key vocabulary (wash, clean, wet, splash)
🏃 Verbs and action words
📏 Concepts like big/small and dirty/clean
💬 Sentence building
🤝 Turn taking
👂Following instructions

The same activity can look very different for every child, because therapy is always tailored to their individual strengths, interests and communication profile. One activity. Endless opportunities for communication. 💙

A new academic year is underway, and it was lovely to get the whole Thrive team together on Wednesday to connect, collaborate and prepare for the year ahead.
