👁️ Know Your Numbers. Protect your vision. ❤️

This Know Your Numbers! Week, it's a great reminder that looking after your blood pressure is about more than just your heart; it can also help protect your eyesight.

High blood pressure often has no obvious symptoms, but it can affect the tiny blood vessels in your eyes. During a routine eye exam, your Optician may spot early signs of changes linked to high blood pressure, sometimes before you're aware of any problems.

Knowing your blood pressure numbers, alongside having regular eye exams, is a simple way to stay on top of your overall health.

🌈 National Colour Blind Awareness Day 👀

Did you know that around 3 million people in the UK have colour vision deficiency? It affects approximately 1 in 12 men and 1 in 200 women, so there could be at least one colour-blind child in every classroom.

Colour blindness doesn’t usually mean seeing the world in black and white. Most people with colour vision deficiency have difficulty telling certain colours or shades apart, with red and green being the most common.

If you think you or your child might have difficulty distinguishing colours, an Optometrist can carry out colour vision testing 💚

❤️ Vascular Disease Awareness Month: your eyes can offer a window into your health 👀

Did you know that an eye exam can sometimes reveal signs of changes affecting your blood vessels? The tiny blood vessels at the back of the eye can show changes associated with conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes.

Changes in the appearance of these blood vessels may not cause noticeable symptoms, which is one reason regular eye exams are so important. Your Optometrist may be able to spot signs that suggest you should speak to your GP or another healthcare professional ❤️

🐾 National Guide Dog Month: celebrating some very special working dogs 🦮

Guide dogs do so much more than help their owners get from A to B. They can provide greater independence and freedom for people living with sight loss.

Did you know that at the end of 2024, there were 3,197 working guide dog partnerships in the UK? Guide Dogs also estimates that it costs around £102,000 to raise and support a guide dog from birth through to retirement.

This National Guide Dog Month, we're celebrating the incredible dogs, trainers, volunteers and guide dog owners who make these life-changing partnerships possible ❤️
