It's International Tiger Day! Did you know..?

🐅 Tigers have excellent night vision, making them highly effective hunters at dawn, dusk and during the night.
🐅 The backs of a tiger's eyes contain a reflective layer that acts like a mirror, reflecting light back through the retina to improve vision in dim conditions.
🐅 A tiger's forward-facing eyes give it excellent depth perception. This helps them accurately judge distances when stalking prey or making a powerful leap.

Spending time outdoors is one of the simplest ways to support both your wellbeing and your eye health.

If you're heading outside today, remember to look after your eyes too:
🌞 Wear sunglasses that offer 100% UV protection.
🧢 A wide-brimmed hat or cap can provide extra shade on bright days.
💧 Keep hydrated, especially in warm weather, to help reduce dry, uncomfortable eyes.

💙 World Sjögren's Day 💙

Today we're raising awareness of Sjögren's syndrome, an autoimmune condition that commonly affects the eyes by reducing tear production.

People with Sjögren's may experience:
👁️ Dry, gritty or sore eyes.
💧 A burning or stinging sensation.
🌬️ Sensitivity to light.
😣 Blurred vision that improves with blinking.

These symptoms can have a real impact on day-to-day life, but there are treatments and management options that can help.

If you're experiencing ongoing dry eye symptoms, don't ignore them. Your independent Optician can assess your eyes, recommend appropriate treatment and advise if further investigation is needed.

Did you know that your eyes can sometimes provide clues about your overall health?

During a routine eye exam, your independent Optician doesn't just check how well you can see. They also look at the health of your eyes, where they may spot signs that could be linked to wider health conditions. In some cases, changes in the eyes can indicate problems affecting the brain or nervous system, allowing you to be referred for further investigation if needed.

While they can't diagnose brain conditions, it's one more reason why regular eye exams are an important part of looking after your health 👁️💙
